#5 Will Be the Area Championship for Boy’s Track & Field
Coach Troy Moses had this to say bout the Area Meet, “All I can say is Wow!!!” At the end of the meet we had a, win the 4×400 and we are Champions!! I’m just so proud of the way our kids stepped up and performed. With our 4×200 relay finishing 2nd, that was not expected.”
HAWK TOP 15 COUNTDOWN 15. Volleyball win over Wimberley in Bi-District 14. Girl’s Basketball beating Boerne Champion 13. Boy’s Basketball win over Wimberley 12. CL’s Football Bi-District win over Gatesville 11. Hawk Ladies Track & Field Season 10. Canyon Lake Football defeating an undefeated Boerne 9. Softball sweeping Navarro in their Bi-District contest 8. No one knew that the 4×200 meter relay would an event that would lead to a win, “Our 4×200 finishing 2nd wasn’t expected,” Coach Moses had a simple deduction but the end result would add up to an Area Championship.
Getting down to the nitty gritty with the #5 Hawk Sporting Event for this past school year. Track & Field will many times be classified as a boring sport for the casual fan as this is a team sport that composes so many individual moving parts.
You attend to watch that son or daughter compete in their special event(s) and then that is usually the extent of a whole day of sitting in the stands. A Field Event can last longer than most of those running races and there is a, tad of team in watching relays, that would involve 4 athletes. Those field events are hard to for spectators as many of those events are better seen close up.
This year, the Hawk’s had two good teams across the board competing on the cinders through the whole season, but the Boy’s winning their Area Meet will be pegged as this year’s 5th best for CL.
An Area Meet has two districts coming together for a chance to advance to the Region Meet by qualifying as one of the top 4 in those events. The stakes have risen by having those competitors already having to qualify by placing in the top 4 in their district meet.
Having 10-12 schools bringing their best will add some adrenaline to an event and upping the angst on the field of play.
Canyon Lake would have one of their best meets when they would beat out two strong teams in Fredericksburg and Wimberley on this night. As well, as all the best schools for District 27-28 4A teams.
Most meets will usually have the school with the most participants coming out on top as many of those championships are won with those 4-5-6 place finishers. There can be a lot of points scored with a meet that will have 17 chances for garnering those final totals.
This Area Meet would come down to the final event, which has what many would say the most exciting race in the 4×400 meter relay. That has a team with 4 runners and a race that is not too short or too long.
A perfect ending event to end a track meet.
On this night, Canyon Lake had a 3 and 6 point lead over Wimberley and Fredericksburg respectfully. The Texans were strong in this event and the Billies just lost by a milo-second to CL in their district meet held a week earlier.
The lead went back and forth between Freddie and The Lake through those first 3 legs and then a late surge by Wimberley on that final lap would have the crowd electrified as each team would be poised to take the top trophy with a win.
Canyon Lake would pull out a team victory for the first time in their history as this would be a meet to remember for all those tracksters on this special night.
