Hawk’s Win over Taylor take 4th on Countdown List for District 14-4A Title
Canyon Lake Football has #4 on this year’s Countdown after finally taking care of Taylor and winning the 2nd District Championship in CL’s history, to start this record breaking season.
“A win that validated all of the hard work our kids did in the off season and our season slogan of FINISH,” Head Coach Charlie Drum stated. “It was also special to beat Taylor at their own place as they did to us the year before. Our district championship was made extra special by the fact we played the last game at their historic stadium.”

The Lake had gone 3 years of trying to figure out a way of beating the Ducks and this crew of players would not be denied with this victory.
Those first 3 games each had a pin poked in Taylor’s, Hawk Doll, that inflicted pain each time as this game would be during the final part of the season. The last two year’s CL & Taylor both had undefeated District 28-4A records with the winner taking home a trophy.
A, 50-44 result a year earlier when the Ducks came to CL’s house and flew away from the Hawk’s. in CL’s three losses, the Hawks were outscored by 11 points, making this win having The Lake outscoring Taylor by 3 points. This tidbit indicates on how close those losses had been.
Canyon Lake had lost leads in each of those previous 3 contests and there were several reasons why this game would rank above Boerne game coming in at #10.
1. Game was for District 28-4A Championship
2. Never beaten Taylor in first 3 games with each loss being a heart-breaker
3. Getting a 1st Seed against one of the toughest if not The Toughest districts in Texas
4. All previous games had gone down to the wire
Volleyball, up to this school year, had the only trophy stating it was awarded by winning a district championship three years ago.
Football would join V-Ball with that distinction after this victory and would continue their winning streak and a road that might have a chance of getting past that 2nd round road block that had stopped the Hawks on their last three tries
Have some fun now and go revisit this game.
