MFJV’s Defense Scores 2 TD’s in Win over Hawks, 24-21

Patrick Almond plays Where’s Waldo on his Touchdown run against Marble Falls.

Canyon Lake won their game over Marble Falls if you don’t count defensive touchdowns. Since that rule has not made it through UIL protocol, then CL will count this first contest as a loss after a final score, 24-21.

“Our team played a great game against a good team,” Head JV Coach Robert Soza said. “Our defense played outstanding and we will need to have a good week of work in preparation for our next game.”

The Falls started the scoring when a Hawk runner fumbled and a Mustang linebacker made a mad dash on a 49 yard touchdown run. MF Defense, 6-0 over the CL Hawks.

The Lake would take the lead right back with a kick-off return of 74 yards, when Ty Martinez, did the trick with a run through the middle of a herd of Mustangs and then breaking to the sideline for a great momentum changer, CL, 7-0, offensive lead.

Both Schools could not get any traction until Marble Falls took over after a missed fourth down try for the Hawks.

A 39 yard pass would translate to a Mustang score with 1 minute remaining in the half,

                     CL Offense with a , 7-6 score.

Canyon Lake started their 2nd Half missing a 4th down play when a Mustang lineman rumbled down the filed on a 55 yard fumble return. MF’s Defense was now up, 12-7.

               Let’s Go Hawks!!

The Hawks were not deterred, however, with their next drive covering 48 yards on 9 plays culminating on a Patrick Almond 2 yard run up the middle that would put your Hawks up, 13-6 over MF’s offense.

Both teams would have the ball once in that final quarter and Marble Falls was first in converting a 4th down play from their one yard line but still being short, 13-12 against the Hawks Offense.

Canyon Lake would not be go down easy and took that next possession 50 yards on 10 plays having Almond scoring again from 3 yards out.

Ryan Rivali was instrumental on one of the best plays when he took the pitch for the 2 point conversion while running over 2 to 3 Mustangs to the end zone for a final score, 21-24.
