District Volleyball Starts this Friday & Coaches Corner
The ReSporter caught up with Head Volleyball Coach Kim Paisley as the Hawks prepare for their opening bout with Boerne this Friday at the Hawk Nest.
Canyon Lake will be starting this District 28-4A season underwater as CL goes into play sporting a 12-14 record. There has been some tough losses this year and many of those set-backs coming from larger schools.
That recipe will be baked starting this Friday to see if that schedule can be a way of preparing The Lake for this district contests.
Bandera and Wimberley are heading up the schools having the better record as play begins.
This will be Homecoming Week-end and the Hawks will have their Sub-Varsity starting first at 5:00pm and then the curtain opens for the Varsity with a 6:00pm start.
Coach Paisley had a conversation with The ReSporter below. And Go Hawks!!
COACHES CORNER
ReSporter: What are your thoughts with the district season beginning this week?
Coach Paisley: “We are fired up to get started! So many districts have started already and I can’t wait to compete and work on the record that matters!”
ReSporter: A tough schedule, how does this slate of games compare to past seasons?
Coach Paisley: “We have competed against some great teams and programs this year and I know this is a great preparation for our teams to compete well in district! Iron sharpens iron!”
ReSporter: The District seems to have two teams that have had more success, how do you judge other teams and their records?
Coach Paisley: “Depending on who teams compete against in the preseason, and what their preparation looks like leading up to district, will determine how they do against teams in their district. Preseason schedules matter as for preparation, but the records don’t. The district record is the only record that matters!”
ReSporter: What are some hurdles this year’s team will need to clear in order to win district and make the playoffs?
Coach Paisley: “We struggled with serve receive and defense in the beginning of season, and I feel pretty confident we have fixed those areas of concern. We need to be consistent through out our play! Put it all together, the mental with the physical aspects of our game!”
ReSporter: How do you prepare for some of these teams if you have not witnessed seeing them on the court?
Coach Paisley: “We watch film, and we have notes from scouting reports. We always discuss our opponents tendencies and prepare our practice plan around what WE need to do on our side of the court and how we can pick apart their team.”
ReSporter: Give us your thoughts on the Sub-Varsity Teams?
Coach Paisley: “Subvarsity teams are doing great this season and we have enjoyed watching them work together and compete! I look forward to watching them continue to grow and compete throughout district play! They work so hard and play well together! Excited to see what they bring to our programs future.”
