Mountain Valley 8th ‘B’ Wrinkle the Wranglers, 48-20
Spring Branch 8th ‘B’ was way in over their heads after Mountain Valley 8th ‘B’ crew put a hurt on this used to be Undefeated Wrangler team, 48-20 last Tuesday night at the Hawk Nest.
“This group is loaded,” Athletic Director Brandon Pawelek stated. “We have so much depth that many of these players would be playing other teams ‘A’ team…this is the Best ‘B’ Team that we have ever had.”
Mountain Valley did start slow after holding this Wrangler team to a 1 yard gain on their first 3 plays. A punt would have MV starting on their 38 yard line.
It took 6 plays before this Hawk team would score when River Hand scooted 12 yards and a lead, 8-0. This was a slow start based on a very high level of play that would be unveiled later in this quarter. But this 6 play drive had just two 2nd down plays before that first score.
Spring Branch’s next three possessions were identical with 3 plays and punt sequence. In those first 4 times with the ball, this Wrinkled Wrangler’s had amassed, -2 yards of offense.
Contrast that with Mountain Valley’s next 3 possessions.
Where Drive Started # of Plays Yards. Result On SB's 42 yard line. 1 Hand with 42 yard run. Touchdown On MV's 13 yard line. 1 Hand with 87 yard run. Touchdown On SB’s 39 yard line. 1 AJ Acosta 39 yard run. Touchdown
Now you can understand on how slow this contest had started with that first drive taking a whopping 6 plays before scoring.
So, for a recap, MV had 10 snaps and accumulated, 237 yards during the first half action.
It was all Hands on deck for those first 3 touchdowns that utilized speed and elusiveness to the nth degree.
“Our offensive line held good and I got the block and and tucked and ran,” Hand Clapped. “It feels good, my blocks were good and my legs moved faster than I thought…..I am a patient runner and I just wait for the block and then run.”
Once Hand got into the open field, the Wrinkled Wranglers could not catch him whether they had an angle or not.
The next run by AJ Acosta had to go down as one of the more entertaining plays of the year. There were some fans that were seen going back to the ticket booth to pay an additional amount based on the entertainment value they were acquiring during this game.
Acosta looked like a surfer as he slanted to the right and just missing the capsizing wave of Wranglers trying for the tackle. Then reversing the field would continue riding the wave until one huge Wrangler that was wearing a new set of jeans not allowing him to bend over. This Spring Branch player caught Acosta and swung him around which only helped jettison the run down the field for the eventual score.
“My run was suppose to go up the middle but it was not open so I bounced out and then juked a guy while I was still running at an angle,” Acosta said with still more breath to keep speaking. “I came right and across in the other direction and then spinned and popped out…that was when I saw #46 and I was thinking I was going to be dead….but I was able to keep going and that was exciting….the offensive line held up for my runs.”
Acosta knows how to talk and run and he does both very well. That Acosta score had the home team up, 32-0 before the Wrinkled Wranglers were able to score before halftime, 32-6.
Mountain Valley was not finished as their 2nd Half started with a 4 play drive that covered 65 yards and a Peyton McCormick 59 yard run that was accented by a McCormick two point run and Hawk, 40-6 lead.
The Hawks kept the same ammo with one last quick rendition of another score that started when Acosta ran 29 yards and setting up Jozua Placeres two runs that took 17 yards of real estate and final MV score, 48-12.
Spring Branch’s record now has a wrinkle in it with a loss at the Hand’s of Mountain Valley. An undefeated season continues for Mountain Valley with a date this coming week playing New Braunfels Oak Run on the road.
Go Hawks and Perch on the Unicorns!!
