Hawk’s Come up Short in Loss to Blanco, 74-70

Canyon Lake turned on the jets in the 4th quarter but it turned out to be too little too late in a 4 point loss to Blanco, 74-70.

“We came out flat and lethargic to start the game and in the second half, The 1st and 3rd quarters really hurt us.” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “I am very proud of how we fought back at the end and gave ourselves a chance though. We redoing some really good things, and if we can clean up some stuff, we will be fine.”

CL outscored the Panthers 47-31 in the even numbered quarters but those odd quarters were just too odd for a win.

The Lake is showing a much faster paced offense and in the past two games out of the gate are averaging 69 points per contest. CL’s best offensive showing was with the 2010 group as that team averaged 54 points per outing.

In this game the Hawks were led with 25 points from Parker Mott with Sam Schimank joining the double digit scoring dual with 13 points.

Some good news came with just 16 turnovers compared to 15 steals…Mott led the assist stat with 8 followed with 4 by Schimank.

Blanco had stretched their largest lead to 21 points with 5:14 left in the game when Canyon Lake went on a 13 consecutive points during the next 3 minutes, 70-62 Blanco.

Just one field goal by the visitors to end the game for Blanco while they converted just 2 free throws in helping CL’s comeback.

With less than a minute remaining, the Hawks, were within 4 points, 73-69 with 19 seconds left and after more steals the game came up just short.

Canyon Lake will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday against Fox Tech and Marion.

Fox Tech will be a home game with the first tip-off with CL’s Freshman starting at 10AM. On Tuesday, Canyon Lake, will be on the road to Marion with another 10AM start time.
