The Hawks have been here before, in fact, this will be their 6th season in a row with Canyon Lake gracing the post-season. Presently CL has a 3-2 Bi-District record going into this battle during that streak.
Canyon Lake did not finish their season with guns blazing and finding that element of their game will be paramount in this, win or go home, time of year will be front and center.
The Lake has not had a full roster for a while but the coaches have a lot of moving parts and piecing their defense and offense will go along way in finding a solution to those recent short comings.
Needville, on the other hand, has shown they can put points on the scoreboard. Six of their 10 games had 40 or more points but the Blue Jays are coming into this contest scoring 14 points in their last two battles.
This Blue Jay offense has averaged 159 receiving yards and 292 rushing yards per game. That would tell most observers, this group of players can excel in both, based on their need in the heat of battle.
#8 Senior Kenny Hrncir, will be the signal caller and he has struggled in the last 3 contests averaging 100 yards through the air.
Hrncir can hurt you with his legs as those same 3 games he accumulated, 315 yards and finished with 1,051 yards via the run. Those two weapons would account for 2636 total yards giving CL enough to plan for in this one player.
What might attribute to those offensive points being minimized in the last 3 contests high come from missing Ashton Stredick their main running back who went out in the Blue Jays game with Brazosport.
That will sound familiar to Hawk fans as The Lake’s downward spiral coincided with the loss of Running Back Jacob Ruff.
Needville was a two headed monster with Stredick and Harncir running….between these two players, they were 83% of their rushing attempts. Now if Stredick is out, it will make that monster easier to contain when the other threat is missing in action.
The ReSporter’s guess is that Stredick will be in action as there are no tomorrows for the losing team.
Needville will play their best players and Canyon Lake will need to find the right keys to their offense as this could become a game of the team with the ball last winning.
Canyon Lake has one advantage with many of these players having a taste of going 3 rounds in the playoffs last season which should help in the preparation.
Should be a good contest and if you cannot make it to Cuero then tune in to Canyon Lake Broadcasting for play by play coverage.
Go Hawks!!
