Lady Hawks Win 2 Pre/Turkey Day Games, Against SA Providence & Poteet

The Canyon Lake Ladies Basketball continued their season last week with two wins running their record to 3-0 after wins over Poteet and Providence in games before the Thanksgiving break.

           Go Lady Hawks!!

Both games were polar opposites, except for the winning aspects, after having a decent shooting game against Providence. A cold front came into the gym for that next outing after CL was not as balmy with their shots after making just 5 field goals in that 2nd win over Poteet.

It was a fouling fest that gave your Hawks 45 shots from the charity stripe in which they would need as many as they could get in sinking 21 which helped in keeping enough distance in a 4 point win, 32-28.

“We have to ramp up the intensity on the defensive end and must block out and rebound the ball better,” Head Coach Zach Burleson stated. “Scoring wise, we must cut down the turnovers. We had an alarming 30 last week and that has to be corrected.”

That 30 turnover contest was in the game with Providence and forcing 9 steals gives the Hawks a large deficit in evening out that stat.

Canyon Lake’s defense is still helping in this 3 game streak in not allowing their opponents to reach 40 points in a contest yet.

“We have a ways to go,” Coach Burleson continued. “I do believe that we have potential, just need to get some time together and roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

The Lake lost Seniors that made a mark for season and career stats that will stand for a long time and now this season will hinge on those returning Juniors to help in the bonding of those newbies on the roster this season.

“We will get more comfortable with what we do with more practice and games,” Coach Burleson closed. “We have some returners but they have different roles. We also have a lot of players in their first year on varsity.”

          Let’s Go Lady Hawks!!

Coach speak for bumps will be on the road during the beginning of this year and this will be a time of getting his players on the same page through practice and games.

The Good News? An undefeated team after two weeks of play.

The Lake will continue on the road when they meet Austin Reagan on Tuesday before heading to Johnson City for a 3 day tourney starting on Thursday.

Go Hawks!!
