The Lady Hawks Basketball team finished with a 2-1 record during the Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills Tournament this past week.

          Go Girl’s Basketball!!

At this time of the year, getting games under your belt is a key priority in preparing for an upcoming district battles.

“We needed the work,” Head Coach Zach Burleson stated. “At times we got anything we wanted and converted,. Other times we struggled just making shots.”

Coach Burleson continued, “Part of the Christmas break but it was good to get some games in.”

The Lake was able to keep all 3 opponents with 38 points or lower and had an offense that started hot but in the end a cold outing was the result of that lonely loss.

CL started the Tournament with a win over Blanco, 50-38 after another solid outside game in sinking 9 of 14 shots beyond the arc. Those 3 pointers came from Chelsea Tschoepe (15 points) and Sophia Barber who would finish with 12 tallies all from her 4 made shots.

“In our game versus Blanco, we shot lights out and hit 7 threes in the first half and that was crazy good,” Coach Burleson assessed. “Against Legacy we got any shot we wanted, just did not make any easy shots but were still able to pull it out.”

That one facet in this contest was enough for this victory after a cold night from 2-point range (28%) and those dastardly free throws (50%).

                Let’s Go Hawks!!

This game was won in those last two periods as a Hawk 2 point lead at halftime would lead to a, 22-12 advantage to end the game.

‘In our game with Calvary, we never got going offensively. We missed a lot of easy looks and it was just too much to overcome,” Coach Burleson finished. “We are better than that and have to just move on and keep working to get better.”

Caroline Kullberg had a solid game scoring 8 points while Jessie Melendez cleaned the boards corralling 12 for the Hawks.

Free throws would become a costly endeavor during this 3 game tourney after being good with an anemic 30% percentage in making 10 in 33 attempts. Those missed opportunities will sink a team when those district battles start stacking up starting in January.

Melendez averaged 11 rebounds during the tournament as she continues to inch up the Hawk rebound ladder residing in 5th place with 477 in her career. Tiffany Tschoepe has been queen of this nest since she graduated with 579 during her 3 year stint on the hard-wood.

Lainee Moses (99) finished with 12 assists as she finds her climb to recent graduate Alexa Ramos needing 54 more in holding down that top spot.

                 Let’s Go Hawks!!

Another Hawk that had a good 3 game blocking party after rejecting 10 opponent’s shots has now joined Amber Ramsey (129) in that triple digit sorority. Kullberg presently has 109 blocks and needs 21 more with still another season to pad that pinnacle.

Chelsea Tschoepe (493) will have a fun time when she passes her sister, Tiffany Tschoepe (515) in the points brigade. With 23 more points, that will become a reality and some banter around the kitchen table in the future. Tiffany is in 4th place behind Katy Williams (755), Alexa Ramos (767), and Reagan Heun (1348).

CL’s next game will tip-off at 11am, next Wednesday January 2nd, as the Girl’s will share the court with the Hawk Boy’s. The Lady Hawks will battle Johnson City as they use this time for a tune-up before District 28-4A gets started two days later on that Friday.

The Lake will start district play on the road in Boerne as they defend their District Crown.

Go Lady Hawks!!
