Hawks Streak in Win over Bandera, 67-62

A streaking Hawk team had enough for a much needed win over the Bandera Bulldogs at the Hawk Nest on Tuesday night in winning, 67-62.

Canyon Lake was able to have 4 players reach double digit scoring, that was led by Mr. Streak, Sam Schimank, who finished with 19 points.
Not far behind was Rico Griffin with 18 points, Parker Mott finished with 14, and thanks fo some clutch charity stripe points Trent MacRoberts chipping in 10 for this win.
The Hawks streaked out to a quick 9-4 advantage to start this outing during the first 2 minutes of action before Bandera would respond in taking a, 15-14 lead with 3:21 remaining in the quarter.
CL was only able to secure 1 point from the 4:10 mark to the end of that first period of play while Bandera poured in 10 points during that same time span and a 6 point Hawk deficit, 21-15.
That Bulldog streak would continue through an 8 minute segment while a lackluster Hawk squad found themselves down 10 points, 25-15, before Streaky Schimank would make his presence known in scoring 10 of the Hawk’s 16 points going into half-time. That onslaught started on a nice inside jumper from Griffin while Schimank made a 3 pointer the old fashion way and behind the arc shot.
“We started slow and without any energy and after a timeout we just came out and dug out of the hole,” Schimank remembered. “We came out and started pressing and that is when we started getting our points and fighting back and it all started with our attitude.”

During that 2nd Quarter had some pressure defense in allowing this comeback and a 4 point lead to finish out that chaotic quarter, 31-27, Hawks. A 16-2 run during that span would give CL help in erasing Bandera’s lead.
Another Streak was present to start the 2nd Half when the Dogs scored the first 5 points followed by a Hawk, 12-0 response and their largest lead, 45-32.
Canyon Lake’s comeback had a lot to do with defense and pressure and Mott was part of that effort when on two consecutive Bulldog possession resulted in Mott’s deflecting a pass that resulted in lay-ups.
“I don’t give up when I make a mistake like I used to,” Mott said with Seniority. “I used to get down on myself and now I try to score with my defense and that wins and it all starts with effort.”
Yes, another streak for those Bulldogs to finish the 3rd period after outscoring The Lake, 13-1 and cutting that 4 point lead to a 1 point Hawk advantage going into that final stanza, 46-45.
Bandera would extend this streak scoring the first 6 points in the 4th Quarter, before two Mott free throws, stopped that run. That swing in action produced a 5 point lead for the Visitors during that final period, 51-46.

Canyon Lake went dormant for a 6 minute and 47 seconds span with one free throw by Rylee Spaulding as CL’s only point.
The Hawks would have started their final streak in outscoring the Dogs, 21-11 to finish the game with important scores coming from a Jeremy Duncan’s 3 pointer to break a 60 tie with one minute left to play.
Bandera and Canyon Lake would exchange leads 6 times from the 3:46 time mark before sinking some clutch free throws and leaving the Nest with this win.
Canyon Lake has a one game advantage over Wimberley going into the last two contests. The Texans will have Llano next before The Lake goes across the Back-Bone for a game that can help the Hawks realize a 3rd seeded playoff game with a win over the Texans.
This Friday, Boerne will be at The Nest, and a victory would help solidify Canyon Lake and give some momentum for this streaky season.
“It starts in practice tomorrow and we will take it seriously in practice and then it will take care of itself,” Schimank said when asked about how this team will work on turning the tables on Boerne.

Mott gave his idea of how the Hawk’s get ready to finish district play, “We will have to get locked in and play together as a team and not let Boerne feed off of our mistakes.”
Head Coach Lucas Chapman also surmised the next two games, “We will have to get after it and play to our maximum effort and be alert on defense.”
