Canyon Lake sent the Wimberley Texans back home after winning their 4th in 5 games over this rival school in qualifying for post-season play, 40-26 last Friday night.

This game was a close match-up through the first 3 periods after Wimberley took the lead, 24-22 to start the 4th Quarter. The lead had changed hands 6 times up to this point of the contest.

Way to be a Hero Hawks!!

Chelsea Tschoepe (14) and Jesse Melendez (11) were the only Hawks to finish with double digit scoring.

Tschoepe finishend with a team high 9 rebounds to go along with her scoring.

“I’m little down low,” Tschoepe said when referring on how she can coral that number of boards. “I just have to work harder and I can be aggressive.”

Tschoepe continued in assessing this game, “We started making our shots and got a couple of 3’s and we made sure we got the rebound so they could not catch us.”

That was accomplished in outscoring Wimberley, 16-2 during that last quarter.

CL had drilled an empty well for most of that 3rd period but a nifty assist from Tschoepe to Jesse Melendez, helped close the gap for a 2 point Wimberley lead to start the final 8 minutes. That score was at the horn which turned out to be the only points scored in the third.

The Hawks poured in 13 unanswered points from Melendez’s shot to end the 3rd stanza to the 5 minute mark of the 4th quarter.

Melendez got two points from the free throw line to start the last period and then a three pointer from Tschoepe (her 4th of the game) put Canyon Lake up for good, 27-24.

           Hit them hard Hawks!!

During the 13 point run Melendez contributed 7 points and ended this run with a 3 pointer the old fashion way with a free throw after a make.

The Lake had fashioned a 9 point advantage, 33-24 and the Texan’s first and last field goal of this period would have this win gift wrapped having the Visitors trip across the Devil’s Back-Bone with a loss.

Melendez finished with a good game defensively after 2 blocks during this Hawk deluge and 3 for the game.

“We had gone through a lot of adversity and we persevered,” Melendez said. “We will have to keep it up and turn on our wheels.”

Melendez continued on how this group of ladies will prepare for Monday’s game, “We will go through our plays and maybe get some new ones…this was a fun game, especially when we started to move.”

                Let’s Go Hawks!!

Some firsts during this battle had CL committing no turnovers during the 2nd Period while finishing with a respectable 14 for the game.

The Hawks had been on the other end of that turnover spectrum during their recent losing swoon.

Marley Carrizales continued her steal brigade while helping with 5 points to help bury the Texans in CL’s blitz in that final quarter.

Lainee Moses has been making her mark known in handing out assists with 2 more in this win and now has 93 for the season.

Canyon Lake will face Liberty Hill on Tuesday in Dripping Springs for their Bi-District contest. Post-Season play is not new for many of these Hawk players after last years team were ousted in the 3rd Round.

A two year win total of 51 games speaks for itself and a chance for more.
