CL Baseball Wins 2 in Tourney & play Zapata for Championship

Hawks run record to 6-1 with 2 wins on Friday.  Play Zapata Sat. for Championship

Canyon Lake swept through their two games on Friday in disposing of Dilley (9-1) and Hondo (8-2) that will put them in the Championship game against Zapata at 4:15 pm tomorrow in Hondo.

Bunk Haus says Way to Go Hawks!

“In those first two games we had problems adjusting at the plate,” Head Baseball Coach Victor Escamilla adjusted. “Tonight versus Hondo we were more focused at the plate and in the dugout. Our guys weathered the 4 hours between games and played their butts off!”

Coach Escamilla was not finished, “That energy iw what we need every game.”

Canyon Lake is in uncharted surroundings with in being 5 games over .500 ball and with their best start in any season ever.

On Friday, Tanner Schultz and Tyler Pauly were the two winning pitchers as The Lake used a 4 run third inning in the Dilley win and a 4 spot in the 2nd frame that would put the Hawks in a comfortable place to get these wins.

“Pauly (Tyler) threw strikes and gave us a chance.” Coach Escamilla closed. “We will have a big game tomorrow versus Zapata at 4. They beat us like a tied up goat last year.”

Canyon Lake has not looked like goats so far this season and another good game on Saturday might have this team looking like Hawks instead.

Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!!

Jeremy Greene had a rare start in that first contest and did not let his chance go to waste in leading the team with hits (3) and rbi’s (3) as the Hawks totaled 13 hits with 4 doubles in taking that first hurdle of the day.

Tanner Schultz pitched a 4 hitter while the Hawk defense committed only one error for this pitch to contact pitcher.

Schultz, would help his cause, with one of those doubles while scoring a run for his 3rd win in this young season.

Canyon Lake had ‘good eyes’ in working 9 walks to help win that 2nd outing against Hondo after adding six singles to the cause that will give CL another chance to play for a Tournament Championship.

CL has responded well from the plate with a decent .340 team batting average while being able to work on what was successful last year in having several players showing they could reach base without getting many hits.

         Go Hawks!!

That has come to fruition with a .464 on base percentage and that stat will prolong innings for runs and keeping the opposing pitcher with more pitches.

That has been a good recipe to go along with an impressive earned run average of 1.62 and giving up less than one hit per inning.

Those numbers will go a long way and can always give a team a good chance for a win.

In with the trifecta of fielding, the Hawks, have a .957 percentage.

Take a bus to the game and forget about being tied up as goats for this game and Go Hawks!!
