It was a pretty empty week for sports as Canyon Lake enjoyed their Spring Break.
There was some action for the Baseball and Softball teams with some mixed results.
Baseball split their week with a couple of one run contests in winning their Jourdanton game and then a loss to Luling on Thursday.
Errors were the culprit in that set-back with the Luling Eagles and the Hawks go into their final week of non-district games and will be working on those shortcomings as the battle for a playoff commences next week.
The Hawks will be looking to make the playoffs for the 2nd time in as many years as the long drought came to an end last year as this CL team enters this week with a winning record.
Softball was still on Break in their opening District 28-4A after being run ruled in Boerne on Friday, 15-5.
The Lady Hawks started well with a quick 4-1 lead after one but that was when the good times came to an end as this crew will continue this week with another tough game with Wimberley on Tuesday and then the Hawks welcome Llano at The Nest.
Track & Field will be in Wimberley this Thursday and will look to continue their improvement in their events ,as they ready themselves as this year’s host team in District 28-4A.
Both of the Soccer teams will enter their final week of regular season as the Ladies will be searching for a playoff spot as they control their own destiny by winning out or even a loss would still have a chance for this Hawk squad.
A Tuesday match-up with Bandera will be a must win and then CL will close out against the Billies and a victory would give The Lake a sweep and a post-season game to boot.
For the Boys, Canyon Lake is in a fight as this year’s group of District 28-4A schools have all 4 of the playoff teams capable of winning on any given night.
CL Boys will have the same scenario as the Ladies, except a playoff spot has been secured but a sweep would do wonders for this Hawk team as the Bandera game is first up and then a tough battle against those Billies.
How Wimberley and Boerne fair will have a say in how the seeding will be paired. The Hawks were swept by the Texans and have a split with Boerne which will put added pressure for a win to end the season at home against Fredericksburg. That would give CL a sweep against the Billies and then when the smoke clears a high seed would be in the cards.
Welcome back from your Break and Go Hawks!!
