Hawks JV take out Jourdanton, 11-2 in Run-a-way Win
Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity Baseball team now prepares for District 28-4A play after destroying Jourdanton JV, 11-2 on Friday night.
“We hit the ball well and put the ball in play,” Head JV Coach Daniel Lancaster stated. “I told the team that we did not come here to get a walk and hits breeds hits.”
That was a truism for this game and with a good pitching outing from Austin Bowers and Jeremy Greene that was combined with some good defense that helped keep this trifecta in line for a convincing win.
“Our defense was good and the overall pitching was good,” Coach Lancaster closed.
Kaleb Morris led off that final inning coaxing a 6 pitch walk that tired out the Indian’s pitcher when Reid Simpson had an easier plate appearance with a 4 pitch walk that had two Hawks on base for their best offensive inning that resulted in 4 runs.
After a wild pitch and passed ball moved the players up, Gilbert Martinez responded with a. 2-run single that started the Hawks onslaught.
Hunter Neimuth knocked in the last Hawk run that completed the game and final score, 11-2.
“We are better with our communicating,” Martinez quipped when asked how this JV team has improved as this season has matured. “I have been working in practice on my hitting and this is a really competitive team because anybody can take your spot and you have to fight for it.”
Martinez was relating on how many players that reside in waiting for a chance to get on the field. With over 20 players on the Junior Varsity, a coaches biggest concern would reside on how to get the players enough time in action to assess strengths.
On what might give an edge to the traffic jam of players, Martinez assessed, “I will need to field and hit better….over the Summer, I will hit in cages and work on my fielding with my Dad.”
Trying to find an advantage to be a future Varsity player is now the best sign of a bright future for Canyon Lake in their Baseball program.
There are more Martinez’s and that, want to compete, mantra will pay dividends in CL’s future.
Go Hawks!!!
