The ReSporter will start this week’s recap with the Hawk’s Soccer teams.
The Ladies got it done by tying the Billies which gave the edge to Canyon Lake due to their earlier win against the Billies, 2-0 two weeks ago.
Now the Ladies will embark to a Bi-District contest against Liberty Hill this week. The Lady Hawks have been playing a much better brand of soccer these past couple of weeks as this young club might be getting their act together in giving the Panthers a run for their money.
It is a #1 Seed vs. a #4 Seed but this is why they play the game as anything can happen as the Football and Boy’s Soccer teams have overcome that obstacle in past play-off appearances.
For the Boy’s Soccer team, the Hawks put a brand on the Billies with a convincing 5-1 battle that helped propel your Hawks to a #2 seed and a date with Lampasas this Thursday. Both the Boys and Girls will be in Burnet for those two battles.
There are some common opponents with these two schools and you might be able to get an idea of who might have the edge looking at those contests below.
The Lake tied Liberty Hill in January and the Panthers won their district that has the Badgers in it, so that alone will allow some speculation.
*Lampasas Lost to Wimberley 0-4, but Canyon Lake did not do much better against the Texans in losing both games against our Back-Bone Rival.
*Lampasas Lost to Bandera, 2-1, but this contest was the 3rd game in early January and Bandera fell to CL on three occasions this season.
*The Badgers Lost to SA Christian, 5-2 and your Hawks played SAC twice with both being on the winning side. One game was a in a kick-off while the other had CL winning a week later.
*Both teams beat Jarrell as that school was in the same district as Lampasas. The Badgers finished 3rd in District 27-4A behind, LH Panthers and Salado. The Hawk fans know all bout those two schools and knowing the Badgers finished 3rd is not as bad as it might seem.
Should be a good game and hopefully a win for the Hawks who would play again if they win the next week on a Monday or Tuesday.
Baseball is doing well as they finished regular season with 9 wins and will now open District 28-4A against two powerhouse schools in Boerne and Wimberley. Both games will be on the road which will test this Hawk Baseball team to the nth degree. Their first home game will be a week from Tuesday when Llano comes to town.
Softball has hit some rough spots as they have lost their first 3 district games and have two more tough games this week against an undefeated Fredericksburg crew and then a home game with Bandera.
CL Hawks will need to find out if they can put all three aspects of their game together to pull off a win.
Pitching—Hitting—Defense….they have been on and off and during this stretch not a lot of consistency.
Canyon Lake’s Track & Field teams will be in Fredericksburg this Thursday as this will be their last Meet until district. That District Meet will be hosted by Canyon Lake in April.
Canyon Lake has a Power Lifting team and Josh Almond went to State competition and finished 7th in competition last Saturday in Abilene.
The ReSporter will have a special article coming out this coming week on this young man who now stands in a small group of Hawk Athletes.
Melissa Ellis who was the State Champ in the High Jump and Jordan Anderson who finished in 6th place in the 400 meter dash a few years back in Austin.
Good company to be in and congrats to this young man.
Go Hawks!!
