CL Hawks Beat Bandera, 10-7 in a Comeback Finale to Season.

Canyon Lake Hawk’s Baseball Team finished their season with a win over Bandera, 10-7 after a 12 hit barrage in this back and forth battle.
A Fredericksburg’s win over Llano was the straw that broke the camel’s back and CL would not have enough humps to overcome that final scenario and an entry to the post-season.

Now, The Lake, will go to work for next year as this team will have a host of returning players after losing Tanner Sellers who was this year’s token Senior.
“Overall, we have been making better contact,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said in response to the teams raising their season’s batting average in closing out the year. “We had more positive at bats and we were looking to be more aggressive.”
Coach Escamilla continued, “I am happy they did not press and we made things happen and I am excited about that.”
The Hawks would come from behind after yielding a first inning run and were still tied 3-3 before getting their second lead, 4-3 in the top of the 5th inning.
Bandera responded in scoring 3 runs that had these Bulldogs ahead, 6-4 in the bottom of that 5th inning and the Hawks running out of innings to realize a chance of playing again.
CL had their bottom of the batting order, on base percentage, going strong and setting up a chance for another come-back victory.

Sellers and James LaLonde had a productive night with 3 walks (Sellers) and 2 hits (LaLonde), with an added sacrifice bunt, that allowed an array of ways of producing valuable runs.
In fact, Sellers finished his career with Canyon Lake with no official at bats in this game, but would score 2 runs, while LaLonde scored a run with an rbi that set the stage for the Hawk’s top of the order. Those two hits for LaLonde has him placed at 9th for CL’s all time batting average on the chart below.
“I wanted to have a good approach and wanted to drive the ball into right field,” LaLonde recapped.
On playing two positions in one game? “Playing second base is less stressful because your reaction playing third has to be much quicker.”
James LaLonde finishes a strong Sophomore campaign.
For the 2nd game in a row, the first 3 CL players had an impressive, .571 on base percentage.
Brandon Robinson applied some power with his 3 hits (double-triple) that put an exclamation point for this win.
Robinson finished this season batting .413 which tied him with Michael Brady during his 2013 season. That record had stood for 6 years before Robinson went crazy in his last two games to get to this All-Time Hawk plateau.
Four CL players notched a spot in that All-Time top 10 batting average list during this campaign.

Robinson was an instigator, with a single in the 3rd inning that resulted in 3 runs and a Hawk first lead. His single had 3 Bulldog errors attached to that play that scored Sellers and Mason Lee after both reached base on walks. Robinson took advantage of Bandera’s 3rd error for that 3rd run.
Robinson had a one out double in the 5th frame and scored on a Tanner Schultz single. Schultz was nails with his at bats after rapping 3 singles and, in this case, another run batted in.

“I have been working on waiting on the ball and keeping my hands back,” B-Rob said. “I am really proud of how we developed this year with all of our young guys and that gives me high hopes for next year.”
Bandera, in each of those innings, responded by tying or taking the lead which had a more desparate Hawk team looking for an opportunity to retake the lead.
With that, 6-4 Bulldog lead, Canyon Lake would flex their wings once again and in their next inning a Robinson triple would help in this onslaught that continued and bolstered a 5 run take-back lead. Robinson would score on another Schultz single to cap off a Hawk, 9-6 lead.
Sellers (walk), LaLonde (single), Caleb Williams (single), and Mason Lee (walk) were the other Hawk’s scoring and what would be enough runs in realizing this win.

Matt Anderson who has a knack on reaching base started that final inning with a walk, his 19th for this season and 36 in the last two years, putting this Hawk as the all-time leader in reaching base in this manner.
After a sacrifice on Sellers’ last bat had a Caleb Williams single, in scoring the last run in this game and Hawk, 10-7 win.
Williams had two strong at bats to end this game, giving a strong indication, this team might not be hoping for a loss to have an invite to a play-off season next year.
“I finally got on top of the ball and executed,” Williams stated. “I just wanted to score as they were just throwing the ball around.”
Literally and now coming back around will be a key as Canyon Lake will be one year older and ready for bigger prizes when they take the diamond next season and have it evaluated on it’s worth.
