MVMS High IQ Beats Churchill MS, 13-4

Coaches Amora & Burger, Teaching after win over Churchill, 13-0.

The Mountain Valley Hawks started their Baseball season with a resounding win over Churchill Middle School after scoring 2 or more runs with each inning for a final, 13-4 victory.

Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!

“Starting strong set the tone and allowed our players to play relaxed and play better and have fun,” Head Coach Raymond Amaro stated. “This group of 8th graders have experience and from 1 to 9 (in the line-up) know baseball and have a high IQ.”

This group of players have been making noise and having fun this whole year in the sports arena and look to continue that dominance this month in playing Comal County Middle Schools.

Every Hawk but one reached base as pressure was applied each frame as Churchill played catch-up until running out of ammo as MV scored 7 unanswered runs with their last inning scoring 3 runs with just one out being recorded before the clock stopped play and damage to this school from New Braunfels.

Hunter Anderson started the game on the mound and had a 3 up 3 down inning before having first dibs in the batter’s box. Hunter Anderson did not waste time with a triple to center-field and scoring on a pass ball.

Ty Sellers & Hunter Anderson take it all in after blow-out of Churchill.

“It was exciting as we hopped out on them early and our hitters at the plate made this game easy,” Pitcher Hunter Anderson said. “We hope to continue to build as a team but we always have stuff to work on in practice and that will be our first stop.”

MV would finish that first inning with a two out walk to Brayden Welch and after two stolen bases would score when Helijah Johnson singled.

Mountain Valley would not trail but a Cougar run in the 2nd did cut that slim lead to one, 2-1.

That would have the Hawks with a 4 run 2nd inning starting with two walks (Emmett Greiman & Travis Parma) an error and Chase Anderson being hit by a pitch.

MV made a habit of stealing bases as that was their motif in taking 10 bases in this game with most of those thefts coming from unsuccessful pick-off attempts.

Pressure was a Cooker throughout with 8 of the Hawks scoring from wild-pitches and errors with an occasional hit to keep the Hawks flying around the bases.

Mountain Valley was all business after Hunter Anderson and Ty Sellers gave up a combined 7 hits and with a defense committing one error kept a clean game in completing the trifecta in Baseball.

Ty Sellers finished the game on the mound in helping keep this contest in cruise control, “I just came in and tried to throw strikes…I was just trying to do my job and just slowed it down and tried to do my job.”

Emmett Greiman proved that a walk can be a very good at bat after working 3 base-on-balls and coming around for a score with each plate appearance. (High IQ)

(1) Offense? Scored 13 runs in 3.1 innings.
(2) Defense? Just one error keeping pitches at a minimum.
(3) Pitching? One bad inning allowing 3 runs giving up 4 of 7 total hits.

(4) Smart team with a high IQ.

A solid effort with MV’s next game ay Canyon MS, Saturday starting at 11:00am, come out and watch this Hawk team put their learning in action.
