This season’s games will be coming down to the wire with Mountain Valley enjoying a half game lead over Spring Branch and your Hawks will take on Smithson Valley Middle School on Thursday.
With a win, MV, will take home the Championship in grand fashion. The Standings above show how many runs scored (RS) and runs allowed (RA) each team has accumulated and it shows just how balanced this group of players are playing.
Giving up 8 runs will attest to a teams defense and pitching while their offense is averaging 11 runs per contest.
If Spring Branch can win their game over Pieper Ranch and MV loses to Smithson Valley, then Mountain Valley would be in 2nd place 1/2 game behind a team that the Hawks beat earlier this season, 9-3.
Pitching has been a main contributor for this year’s games, with a staff that has struck out 22 players, which will account to more than 7 innings a Hawk catcher only had to catch a pitch for an out. Striking out an opponent takes away any chance for an error and extending an inning.

Offensively, Mountain Valley, has carried out one of their main aspects Coach Raymond Amaro can be heard barking out to his players, ‘make contact’. That has been happening based in having just 9 strikeouts thus far, giving an indication that getting a bat on the ball, has been a mission accomplished.
With 16 walks, this Hawk team is showing a patience at the plate, which can tire a pitcher and give a batter more chances to see pitches.
Mountain Valley has weapons up and down their batting order which has not given an opponent a break. Having shortened games due to a run or time rule has been a nice bi-product in helping those pitching stats. This has certainly helped the pitching and defensive side this season.
Big game this Thursday for Mountain Valley with the first pitch commencing at 6:00pm and a chance to finish undefeated.
