Coaches Corner: Lloyd Fields talking Austin Hill Country

The ReSporter was able to have one more audience with Coach Lloyd

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Fields before the big game this Saturday in Marble Falls against Austin Hill Country Knights.

Both teams are presently rated second and third in State by The Bible of Six-Man Football in the State of Texas. Bracken is the second rated team, but the power polls has the game a toss-up.

AHC had a harder time than they expected against Rockwall Heritage last week in the first round of games.

“They (AHC) were not prepared to play Rockwall Heritage,” Coach Fields stated. “Heritage had a 30-16 lead and then they got three starters hurt…Austin Hill Country will hit you…both teams will be better and we are both 100% healthy for this game.”

When asked about what it will take to control the Knights, Coach Fields started, “West Texas is considered the birth place of 6-man football and Coaches from those schools would always say for teams that are close in talent you need to have one stop per quarter to have the best chance to win.”

In the earlier game with AHC the Warriors stopped them six times and held the Knights scoreless in the fourth quarter while running off 24 points in that same quarter.

“AHC executes their Five Option offense better than many teams,” Coach Fields said. “We will need to stop the run first, then the dump pass, and finally the vertical pass down the sidelines.”

The Five Option offense has the spread back with the ball having the option to pass to five other players that have spread over the field giving several options to pass if the run is stopped.

“Who makes the plays will win,” Coach Fields stated. “Field position will be used this week.”

This was the answer based on how the Warriors have had the ball roll as far as it can so the BCS offense would have more yardage to practice plays during the games with inferior competition.

On Saturday, you will have all the arsenal at your disposal for the Warriors to help in every facet for this game.

“We have a better defense than we had for the first game,” Fields said defensively. “Our defense will be more aggressive, we want to make them spend a blocker on Nose Guard (Austin) Wilkinson which will take away one of their five options.”

Wilkinson proved his worth two weeks ago in the game against Kerrville OLH when he bottled up do everything back Marshall Walker and held him to 134 yards rushing.

OLH scored 71 points on AHC this season while your Warriors held OLH to their lowest point total of the season by 20 points, when they were held to 34 points.

One common stat was the fourth quarter as BCS held both of these scoring opponents scoreless in that stanza.

Bracken Christian had the most yardage ever gained in the first game against AHC when they amassed 583 yards. The Warriors had no turnovers and no punts.

One item that will need to be cleaned up was the 60 yards of penalties against Bracken.

“Mistakes magnify,” Coach Fields pointed out. “A penalty might result in a touchdown being called back.”

When asked about the keys to a game victory, Coach Fields finished, “One stop per quarter is number one, no turnovers second, and fourth quarter conditioning will be a factor.”

Bracken had only one game going a full four quarters and it was Austin Hill Country, in fact, the last time Bracken was trailing in a game was in that fourth quarter.

Will this be a high scoring game Coach? “This will be a high scoring game…Absolutely,” Coach Fields finished.

Bracken has been in the lead for 3hours 38 minutes and 42 seconds this season since that first game victory, now we need to ‘Absolutely’ be in attendance for supporting the Warriors to another round of playoffs on their quest for a Second State Title.

Go Warriors!!
