Canyon Lake was able to get a Pay Back win from the Lockhart Lions in a hard fought 4 game set and win, 25-22, 21-25, 26-24 and 25-19.

            Way to Go Hawks!!

This past weekend the Hawks and Lions were pitted against each other in the Wimberley Tex-Fest Tournament and Lockhart served notice that they could handle The Lake with a convincing 2 game sweep, 23-25 and 18-25.

“On Saturday we were flat footed and just lost our steam,” Head Volleyball Coach Kim Clemons said. “We have had good practices since and on Monday we worked on our fundamentals and we came out ready to play. We were getting off the floor and putting the ball down.”

This was a good game for several Hawksters. As there were a couple of CL Game records that were threatened if a 5th battle would have been called for.

Cassidy Felps finished with 39 assists and had a chance in chasing Megan Browning’s record of 57 against Fredericksburg back during the 2010 season. While Lainee Moses accumulated 31 digs while chasing Katy Payne’s 37 totaled that same year against Boerne.

Those two good outcomes led Canyon Lake to a 45 kill night that had Sophomore Megan Vorhis leading the charge with 14.

Megan Vorhis finished with 14 kills and 2 blocks in win over the Lions.

“We knew what wouldn’t work and we tweaked our play during practice and that helped and did work,” Vorhis said like a surgeon after completing an operation. “It is an adrenalin rush when you can get kills and we worked hard in not letting anything get over the net.”

That certainly played out in this win as the Hawks controlled the net with each passing game during this match. Which had CL with a total of 10 blocks in honor of Anna Bettersworth the All-Time Block Leader attending this game.

Vorhis, Caroline Kullberg, Addyson Andrews, Riley Shear and Taylor Fillinger all finishing this win with 2 blocks a piece.

“We are starting to communicate and we learned how to react to constructive criticism during our bonding this past weekend.” Vorhis continued. “That is helping us as we build while listening to our coaches.”

Canyon Lake was night and day different than that Saturday loss to Lockhart as the Hawks had just one dry spell which led to the Lions only win. The Lake had just one service point during a 16 rotation streak that started near the end of that first game into that, 21-25 loss that followed.

The Hawks had 9 different players getting involved in scoring via a kill which was a good sign in showing their receiving and passing game had improved between those two contests.

Canyon Lake will go into their NEISD Tournament with some high hurdles to clear with two undefeated opponents in Churchill (8-0) and United (6-0) before ending that first day of seeding games against Judson (1-5).

How that first day finishes will pit your Hawks against other schools in those other brackets on Saturday.
