Hawks Softball Passes Last Year’s Win Total
The Canyon Lake Softball team has already passed last year’s win total and we are still in February. The Hawks pasted Blanco Panthers last Friday at Hawk Field by a score of 7-1.
Pitcher Missy Romero won her fifth game of the young season as she hit the spots around the plate leaving most of the Blanco line-up guessing at the plate.
With the first nine games in the books, you can start to see certain parts of the game taking shape that can give the fans and team some building blocks.
++Only one error in the game and that play was on the next to last batter.
++Extra base hits….the Hawks have had multiple games in this category.
++OBP…..On Base Percentage are results of good at bats.
++Getting the lead and not letting up. Blanco was out of the game early.
The Hawks are using every facet of the game and the results are 7-1 scores.
The left side of the infield is not letting many (if any) balls get past them. Vicki Henderson and McKenna Beseda have made many plays which leads us to the pitching circle.
Missy Romero is controlling the tempo of the game with a Catcher Katy Payne as her battery mate. The two players act like they have been playing together since the fifth grade.
The team batting average is a lofty .312 percentage which in softball translates into a great chance of winning any game.
The top of the batting order is being served with Tiffany Arredondo and Romero batting for a combined .528 average. When you can place two players on the bases constantly, then the rest of the team can bring them home.
The Hawks seem to be meshing and when that starts to happen, then you can pass the previous year’s win total quickly and the building blocks will perpetuate into better results.
The Hawks play Monday and then will be playing in the Blanco tournament this weekend….hopefully we can talk about the next five wins this time next week.
