CL Hawks JV’s Mistakes Help in Loss to Lampasas, 19-34

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity suffered their 2nd loss this season after letting mistakes take down any momentum to overtake Lampasas, 34-19.

             Signature Homes says, Go Hawks!!

The Hawks were in this battle until a 4th quarter that saw this Badger team finishing with 3 scores in the 2nd half that left a hill to high for climblng.

There were some high points in spite this final tally, as Keith Bowers found Blayne Carnes on two passes totaling 101 yards that would keep the Badger’s defensive line honest for CL’s slot-t offense.

That first pass answered Lampasas first score and a wide open Carnes cruising with an 83 yard catch and run that tied it up at 7 all.

This Badger team would keep the pressure after scoring on a 13 play drive that had their longest play being a 6 yard pass. Lampasas was successful on 3 out of 4 third down plays and that last miss had a successful 4th down conversion and score, 7-13.

CL would answer again when they marched down the field in grand fashion. Five plays that had an 18 yard pass to Carnes and then a 17 yard jet sweep with a wipe-out block from Ethan Maxson that would clear the way for Devyn Placeres that scored and tied the score at 13-13 going into half-time.

“So when the play went into motion, I knew that I had to cut him (Badger defender),” Maxson said. “After I blocked him I just saw him fly over me.”

That hit was worth the price of admission as the crowd (in unison) had that whoooo sound and seeing Placeres scoring added to the excitement.

Ethan Maxson had a clearing block on Devyn Placeres TD run.

On what Canyon Lake will need to accomplish for their last scheduled game? “We beat them (Liberty Hill) last year…so we will need to go to practice and work our butts off because this will be our last game.”

CLJV had fumbles and bad snaps that proved to be the ointment in helping with this downfall.

So far, this has been another sub-varsity team that have proven their worth that was right there for a win but just ran out of time.

A Junior Varsity that has lost some players who made a move to Varsity but that is usually true for most JV squads.

Canyon Lake will go into their last game with a 6-2 record and another win will give your next Varsity players some confidence going into the off-season.

Way to Go Hawks!!
