Lady Hawk’s Green Team Lose Heartbreaker to Wimberley JV, 37-32

                                         Lady Texan’s doubling up on Allysia Menchaca in the paint, to no avail.

The Lady Green Hawks started slow and ended slow after losing a close contest against Wimberley JV’s squad, 37-32 last Tuesday night.

Canyon Lake was led by two Hawks that finished with double digit scoring, Kylie Rust (16) and Allysia Menchaca (12) as the remainder of the team combined for 4 points in the loss.

“We were just trying to run our plays and protect the paint,” Menchaca said when asked about the slow start. “We needed to realize that we just needed to continue working as a team and execute more….and that gave us confidence.”

Menchaca was in control in the paint on this night finishing with 14 rebounds while blocking 5 of the Texan’s shots to complete her dominance throughout in this contest.

CL as a team had 40 rebounds but with 39 turnovers those good stats were certainly watered down.

Wimberley did have frequent flyer miles to their charity stripe that helped in retaking a lead early in the second half.

The game started with a Texan, 9-0 run….those points were scored in the first 3 minutes that had the Hawks reeling.

Allysia Menchaca was all smiles after a double-double in Texan game.

A time-out and a regrouped Lady Hawk team would have a 13 unanswered points as they clamped down on Wimberley while hold them scoreless for the next 7 minutes into the 2nd quarter.

CL would went back to a cold spell that allowed WT to reclaim a lead that would hold up for this win.

Canyon Lake was able to draw close a couple of times, but the Texan’s would take advantage of those Hawk miscues for a 11 point lead, 34-23 with 6:33 still left in that final stanza.

Another 8 point run helped CL close the gap with right at 3 minutes remaining, 34-31 but a Texan 3 pointer put a damper on a very resilient never quit Hawk team.

CL will be back in action on Friday when Bandera will make a visit to the Hawk Nest as district play continues.
