CLJV prepare for a successful inbound pass in win over Bandera.
Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity Rebounded for their opening win in District 28-4A play with a convincing, 50-30 victory.

“They did everything I asked,” Head JV Coach Ryan Garney said like a happy teacher. “We executed but this was only one game and we have nine more to go….we will need to do a better job of taking care of the ball but many of those errors had them trying to make a good play.”
After shooting 35% from the floor and committing 29 turnovers would usually be a recipe for leaving with less points than your opponent. That would not be the case as the whole picture showed that a poor shooting night can be rectified with an abundance of offensive boards.
CL secured 27 boards on the offensive side which allowed a lot of grace with a team that controlled the paint totaling 56 rebounds with 16 steals that will tell the whole story for this 20 point win.
Jeremy Greene and Matt Taliaferro both finished with a double-doubles which saw 6 Hawks with 5 or more rebounds.
Brock Coburn was one of many Hawks that showed that this would be a blood letting as this JV Team looked like sharks swarming the seas for deflated basketballs.

“In my last game I played horrible,” Coburn said with a slow burn. “We had been working the whole week on being aggressive and we just came out and took it!”
That was certainly a truism in this contest as CL would have a deficit just once after a 3 pointer by a Bulldog during the first minute of play for a Bandera, 3-2 lead.
A Greene bucket from an assist by Mikey Carrizales would reclaim a Hawk lead 10 seconds later and the rout was on. Canyon Lake continued their dominance by stretching their lead to 24 points late in that 4th quarter, 46-22.
The Hawk’s next opponent will be a Greyhound in the Hawk Nest next Tuesday with a chance to continue their aggressiveness and undefeated district slate.
