Lady Hawks Get First Free Win in District Play Over Llano, 45-35
Lady Hawks were all about charity in their first District 28-4A win over Llano, 45-35.
With a 23% shooting percentage from the floor and an abysmal 7% from beyond the arc, Canyon Lake was able to take away some Free in their Throw in sinking 21 shots from the Charity Stripe in this win.
Yes, the game lasted a long time but after a first quarter deficit of 6 points something finally gave and a welcomed site for a win that will go a long way in seeing if this 2020 Hawk team might have better fortunes as the 2nd Round of district play could realize another post-season on the horizon.
CL had 3 Ladies that decided to pitch a tent at the Free Throw Line that had each player reaching a season high with their all-time best night after struggling as a team from the Line this season.
Marley Carrizales would be that one exception, in this narrative, as Carrizales came into this contest with the best percentage at this distance.
Before Game 45-66 68% For Game 89% After Game 53-75 71%
Lainee Moses had averaged right at 4 points per game entering the Llano contest for the season. Moses scored a game and season high 15 points that added another miracle to her career with 6 of those points from that Free Throw Line.
Before Game 26-58 45% For Game 55% After Game 32-69 46%
Sophia Barber would sink 6 of 9 shots after a season of 12 total Free Throws. A night where scoring in this fashion had not been a common occurrence.
Before Game 5-12 42% For Game 67% After Game 11-21 52%
The Lake averaged 10 trips to The Line for the year compared to 33 on this, need a win, night.
Your Hawks righted their ship in those next 3 periods after that poor start by outscoring the YellowJackets, 41-25 to secure a win and keeping a chance for post-season play.
After the first round of competition in the books the result has Canyon Lake tied with Bandera and Llano for a battle in securing the 4th seed and a play-off berth.
There is still an outside shot for taking Wimberley’s spot and solidify a 3rd seed….that would happen with a Hawk sweep of Bandera/Llano/Wimberley and then some help along the way in seeing if one or both of the Bandera/Llano duo could take one from the Texans.
That chance is doable based on how close each game was during those first round tussles.
So a much needed win and now having a chance of flipping some contests with a good bounce here and there.
