Boys Basketball: CL Hawks Wear Down Llano, 62-37

Hawks heeding advice during timeout in Hawk win @ Llano earlier this year.

Canyon Lake got back on the winning side of the track after a 35 point win over Llano that helped keep their playoff chances alive, 62-37.

Patrick McAuliffe finished with season high 24 points in win over YellowJackets.

“We did what we needed to do,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman assessed. “It was a must win for us, and we came out and took care of business. Patrick (McAuliffe) really got us going in the second quarter and allowed us to pull away. He made some big shots and was aggressive going to the rim.”

McAuliffe finished the evening as the only Hawk to reach double digit scoring (24 points) while also leading CL with 7 rebounds. McAuliffe finished with 3 assists that tied Ben Rowe for the most in a Hawk uniform.

Rowe was also active in distributing the ball with 4 assists to go along with his 3 out of 4 shooting that completed his all-around game.

“We allowed our seniors to play a bunch and they did some really good things,” Coach Chapman continued. “They are a special group and great young men, so it was good to be able to come out and get a win on Senior Night. I am very proud and honored to coach them and hopefully we can finish their careers out strong.”

This game was knotted up after those first 8 minutes of the game and then McAuliffe scored 12 of his 24 points during that 2nd Quarter and a 17 point half-time lead, 34-17.

The Lake would continue their onslaught in outscoring the YellowJackets, 28-20 in the second half in finishing off this opponent. A season low of 7 turnovers helped in giving this scrappy opponent with little ammunition.

As CL is now down to two more contests with one more home game this Friday against State Ranked Fredericksburg and then finish out the regular season across the Devil’s Back-Bone.

              Way to Go Hawks!!

“Going into our last two games, we just have to build on what we did on Tuesday night,” Coach Chapman closed. “This time of the year can become a grind. Everyone is tired and worn down some, so we just have to come in everyday, have some fun and compete. I just really want us to be able to be at our best in these last two games. We can live with the end result if we are playing up to capacity.”

A split in these next two battles would be ideal for a decent showing when post-season comes calling.

Go Hawks!!
