Hawks Lose Championship Game to Medina Valley, 2-1 & District 28-4A Results

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team finished the week with a 4-1 record matching their first week of that 2010 team who stands alone as the best record and having a winning district record.

“We needed to come up with a key hit,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We are really ahead of our game in defense and pitching….our hitting needs to get better and it will.”

Will this year’s team be able to rise above that year’s team? If pitching is the criteria then that would be a real possibility after giving up just 2 unearned runs in those 4 battles.

In the loss to Medina Valley, leaving runners on base proved to be the downfall in not capitalizing in those early innings when facing a pitcher that could not find the strike zone.

Giving up 5 runs in your first 5 games is a doable week which can allow a team to find the win column more often than naught.

The Hawks had two pitchers, Tyler Pauly and Tanner Schultz, who finished on the All-Tourney Team.

The Lake will welcome Smithville to the Hawk Nest this Tuesday when the Hawks JV first pitch at 430pm followed by the Varsity with a 7pm first pitch.

Then another Tournament in Medina Valley where CL will face the Host on Thursday 1000am. On Friday, Cornerstone at 10am and Pearsall at 1245pm start.

Another good Tourney with more games that can have some more good results.
