CL Hawks Softball Send Burnet to Pound after a 14-3 Pounding

Softball Little League Enjoy CL Varsity after win over Burnet, 14-3.

Canyon Lake Softball took the Burnet Bulldogs to the pound after scoring a, 14-3 win and improving their record to 5-9 going into the Blanco Tournament this weekend.

“I was proud of the way we came out in the first inning,” Head Softball Coach Hayley Galloway started. “We had been struggling scoring runs in the past few games and those 6 runs took the pressure off and allowed us to have fun.”

This Bulldog team would jump out to a one run lead after Burnet had their first batter reach base on an error that would score an unearned run on a double by the Visitors.

CL would have 10 hits, with five coming from the extra-base category with 3 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 home-run that would add decorations on this fun party.

CL had their first 5 batters reach base and The Lake had 5 of their 10 hits to start the game. The last three hits were all 3 doubles coming from Emma Lane, Kaylee Puente, and Kaylee Moore supplying the power surge.

With so many moving parts with The Lake’s team having injuries and other happenings with lost players had this game with that same mantra with Marley Carrizales not being able to attend due to a family funeral.

That had Coach Galloway, moving players like a championship Chess Match. On this night the moves proved to be beneficial for this victory.

Emma Lane and Riley Millhouse-Glenn combined for 7 rbi’s in win over Burnet.

On what this does to a team, Emma Lane (who ended with 4 rbi’s on two hits) said, “We are a team first and we are still doing decent.”

That would certainly be the case on this night as the Hawks continued their scoring onslaught in the next two frames after scoring 5 more runs for a, 11-1 lead.

That 2nd inning had the first two Hawk batters reaching base the same way as the first stanza, via a walk and hit batter. That hit batter would have Alex Jones showing the bruises for taking two hits for the team and scoring in each inning. Lane would be the star again driving in both of those runs on her single.

Riley Millhouse-Glenn would be next up with a triple in the 3rd inning that cleared the bases as Riley ended this contest with 3 rbi’s as she would score on a Maddy Puente grounder.

Riley also commented on the musical chairs of moving players around, “We all know and trust each other as a team…we play for our injured and sick players as they are still a part of our team whether they are here or not.”

Burnet was able to elongate this battle after scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning when CL was greeted with a lead-off double that was followed by two more doubles scoring enough runs to keep this game in doubt.

Maddy Puente was in the circle again and pitched a gem in scattering 8 hits while striking out 6 Bulldogs. That main gem came without walking a batter which is a key for any pitcher while reaching 3 balls against only two players and striking both of those ladies and sending them back to the dog-pound.

In the bottom of that 5th inning had Adrianna Peaslee hitting a bomb over the left-field fence with some degree of authority that would complete the Hawks power showcase on this night.

“I told myself not to suck,” Peaslee said matter of factly. When asked where that came from, Peaslee said, “Dad said my job was to get on base and not to ‘suck’….

“I was thinking, that was it,” Peaslee would say her response was when she hit the ball. “That was the contact that I needed.”

The Hawks would find a rescue home for these Bulldogs in the bottom of the 6th inning when Jaden Castillo would start the curtain closing on an infield single. A walk for Jodi Millhouse-Glenn would put Castillo in scoring position when Alex Jones would lay down a perfect bunt that led to two scores after the throw to first was not fielded scoring both runners and closing the curtain and allowing the fans to make it home in time before a downpour.

Canyon Lake will be in a tournament in Blanco this week-end as the Hawks will have a chance to play in a Tourney that will have more schools that will not have a 5A or 6A on their description on the size of school.

“I’m excited about it (Blanco Tournament) because it allows us to spend more time together,” Riley Millhouse-Glenn said.

“I’m excited to play teams that are more our size school,” Coach Galloway closed. “We want to do well and we played those two tournaments with larger schools because iron sharpens iron and that was the whole point.”
