Canyon Lake finished even (1-1) after their first of a two day three team round-robin in beating Blanco (3-0) and then losing to Peaster (1-3). (25-15, 25-21, 25-23)

“I knew this (Peaster) would be a tough match,” Head Coach Kim Clemons stated. “We wanted to play up and we did that in the third set, but they (Peaster) got back under control of their game.”

                   Go Hawks!!

Coach Clemons continued, “We played scrappy but we will have to get use to the speed and tomorrow we will have a lot more games like Peaster and we just have to flat out get after it.”

Clemons was talking about those next two schools in Saturday’s match when La Vernia and Stephenville come calling.

In that first game (Blanco), the Hawks had another slow start with a, 3-9 deficit before a Coach Clemons timeout.

That deficit was quickly erased when Kaitlyn Cox had an 8 service rally that would give CL the lead and separation for a, 20-13 lead.

Emily Pena had a 5 point service that helped tie the score (10-10) and The Lake outscored the Panthers, 22-6 after that first timeout in this win.

Canyon Lake had 14 total aces with a 90.4% from the service line helping in this sweep. Pena led with 5 aces followed by 4 by Cox.

Megan Vorhis was the leader in kills with 6 and was joined in the hit parade when Addyson Andrews and Claire Schroeder each getting 4 kills.

Senior Kaylee Moore (16) and Olivia Robinson (10) were the only two Hawks with double figures in digs.

Sophomore Pena led CL with 11 assists that helped complete this win.

That next battle was against a Volleyball Factory in Peaster who ran their all-time recored to 3-0 against the Hawks in this 4 set loss. (10-25, 14-25, 25-21, 19-25)

Peaster controlled those first two sets handily as the 25 points scored in that third set was more than Canyon Lake had combined to start the game.

In that first set, the Hawks, struggled to reach the 10 point plateau and improved after those first game jitters scoring 14 in that next set loss (14-25).

                Let’s Go Hawks!!

It was that 3rd set that saw some life for the Gold and Green ladies after starting with a 3-1 lead that would not hold up when Peaster answered and worked for a 13-8 lead which was reminiscent of those first two sets.

The Hawks were not through this time and would mount a comeback and eventual win.

Cox would be serving again with a 6 point rally that contained two aces which happened to be the only two aces for this Hawk match.

Hannah Harrison had two kills and Vorhis helped with a kill and block that gave CL a 15-14 lead. The Hawks were able to finish the set without losing the lead and their final 4 point win would match the largest lead in this set (25-21).

In that final set, Canyon Lake and Peaster went back in forth and the Hawks had their final lead, 12-11 before Peaster was able to muster enough momentum to finish the game and match after outscoring the home team, 14-7 for that clinching victory.

    Go Hawks!!
