Hawk’s Sub-Varsity Learn Ins and Outs after Boerne Scrimmage

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity welcomes a New Season with dominating scrimmage.

Canyon Lake’s Sub-Varsity continue to improve after their first and last scrimmage before the season starts in earnest this coming Thursday.

                      Go Hawks!!

CL, Freshman certainly had some butterflies fluttering around in their stomachs in taking the field for their first time in the High School Arena.

This group of players have seen a major improvement between their 7th and 8th grade years as that first season had a team that did not realize much success in that win/loss column. The improvement to that next season showed that a young man can become a different player in stature as that same group of players worked to breaking even in that win/loss situations.

Now, after another year, there will be some curious eyes watching to see if that same metric of improvement will continue as this campaign opens the curtain next week at home against Wimberley.

On this day, improvement was realized as the scrimmage started to get long in the tooth as it looked like a different team as the freshman was ending this evening of plays.

Billy Welty is all smiles after a great start on the gridiron!!

Billy Welty was one of those players that finished this day with some tough runs that turned out to be scores while running over some players with a different color on their jersey.

“We need our blocks to be better,” Welty stated like a technician. “But overall, I think we will have a good season ahead of us.”

On what Welty’s thoughts were as he entered the stadium, “I was scared and now that I was out here I got excited.”

That is what is fun to see as this group of players look to see what they might have in store when next week comes calling.

This Freshman class had 30 players and another 15 that were signed up but have yet to make a practice as parent’s are still concretized about the virus and so now this group of players will have some friends suiting up in the coming weeks as school will open their doors next week and those missing-in-action players will join in to make this a good first year of football and Hawk Athletics.

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity took care of business as that District 14-4A district championship that was celebrated last season can have another spot on their trophy case for a JV Championship this season.

    Go Hawks!!

It was a dominating evening for this crew as this Greyhound JV found that rabbit they were chasing was a Hawk!

The ReSporter will start this Thursday in covering these well deserving young men as the Junior Varsity will be hosting the Wimberley JV after the conclusion of the Freshman game.

Come and be a part of seeing what type of future football will have as these sub-varsity players put it all out on the line.

And Go Hawks!!
