Hawks Freshman Can’t Finish in Loss to Wimberley, 26-14

Hawk Freshman can’t hold lead in loss to Wimberley, 26-14.

Canyon Lake’s Freshman started firing on all cylinders but the Texan’s had more cylinders to fire in this game after scoring the final 18 points to finish this win, 26-14.

                  Let’s Go Hawks!!

It took Wimberley just 3 plays with two explosive plays before Bruner Beckett plowed over the goal line from two yards out for a Texan lead, 8-0.

The Hawks covered 40 yards on their first drive with the major damage coming from the feet of Billy Welty after a 27 yard run for his only carry of this drive. CL could not convert their pat and Wimberley still had a, 8-6 lead.

A successful onside kick helped continue the pressure when The Lake took just two plays with Welty taking the reins for a 47 yard score and Hawk lead, 14-8.

A key Hawk in this battle was Oscar Aguilar who was never idle after gathering two sacks and punting/kicking and opening holes for Hawk rushers was an eye opener.

“We were not conditioned enough,” Aguilar said when asked bout his thoughts on the game. “We wanted to land the first quarter and we are going to play harder and keep on bringing it and get better.”

Oscar Aguilar wreaked havoc during his first High School outing.

Canyon Lake started the 2nd Half with a 14 play drive that had 7 different Hawks with at least one carry that had the home team penetrating to the Texan’s 24 yard line. The drive would end on an interception by the Texans that stopped the drive and finished this game.

Wimberley took that turnover and waltzed down the field on 10 plays that had 5 plays by the run and pass. That final reception went for 27 yards after a Hays Pounds catch and run scoring and leaving just 4 minutes to play.

A tough loss but improving stamina and realizing the game requires a 4 cylinder (quarters) of action will see how this Freshman can keep up for next Thursday’s game.

Way to Go Hawks!!
