Pre-Game: La Grange @ Canyon Lake
Pre-Game: LA GRANGE @ CANYON LAKE Leopards (0-1) Hawks (0-1) Game Time: 7:30pm September 4th History: La Grange leads series, 3-0. 2012 Hawks 09 La Grange 34 2013 Hawks 28 La Grange 48 2013 Hawks 08 La Grange 50 (playoff game) This Year’s Results: Hawks 22 Wimberley 24 La Grange 14 Rockdale 40 ==============================================================
Canyon Lake has been behind the 8 ball when playing La Grange after an 0-3 record and needing some redemption after just missing a chance for a major upset to start the season against Wimberley.
This Leopard team, during a two game series in 2012-13 seasons, averaged 44 points while holding the Hawks with a 15 point average.
That 2013 year was a season where the slot-t offense was in its infancy. That game in 2013 had CL without a victory going into that contest 0-4 and after that 20 point loss stretched their losing streak to 8 games. The Lake would have their longest loss streak reach 9 games before changing their fortunes in winning 3 of their last 4 district games that helped in earning a playoff spot.
In that playoff game, Canyon Lake was playing in the 2nd round after surprising Pleasanton in the Bi-District battle. La Grange brought the Hawks back to earth on a cold and raining night in Georgetown.
This year, LG had a tough start to their season in a 26 point loss to Rockdale and was down by 6 points going into halftime. That 2nd half was all Rockdale after scoring 20 straight points without surrendering any more points to the Leopards.
Rockdale is ranked 7th according to Texas Football Magazine so a loss to this 3A school is nothing to be ashamed of. Just for your records, Jourdanton is ranked 10th in the 3A schools which is the team CL has scheduled after losing two 5A schools due to the Wuhan Virus.
This Leopard team has 25 returning letterman and return 13 starters after finishing 8-4 last season.
La Grange had 216 yards of offense with 171 yards via their ground game. That run game has DJ Taylor who finished with 86 yards in last week loss and Matthew Johnson who accumulated 1,034 yards last season with 540 yards receiving and had a combined 17 touchdowns.
Ryder Imhof will work both sides of the ball, as a linebacker and will also line up at running back when called upon.
QB Caden Cooper did not have a great passing night against Rockdale but did show some escapability in keeping a play alive with his feet.
The Hawks will have their hands full in this Friday home opener.
Canyon Lake had some missteps last week but playing a state ranked opponent did show some solid play on both sides of the ball.
Canyon Lake was able to get their offense going and turned the tables from that previous year’s woeful game. On that same note, The Lake’s defense turned in a much better outing in comparison to last year’s outing and that has to be an encouraging sign.
Having the ability to get up the field and using the pass play when many of those receiving yards did not come on those ’surprise’ pass plays that slot-t’s are noted for.
Being able to waltz up the field when their opponent knows it will be passing play was an encouraging sign. Canyon Lake will try to stop their 5 game losing streak and get back to an all-time .500 record since games started during that 2008 season.
The 155 yards through the air ranked as 29th in game action and tied with another Texan team as the 4th best during the slo-t era.
Come and help get the Hawks over the top and know that there will be only 4 home games this season so help CL in having a home field advantage and Go Hawks!!
