CL Hawk Freshman Realize First Win over Jourdanton, 26-6

Canyon Lake Hawk Freshman with first win after finishing a 4 quarter contest, 26-6.

Canyon Lake Hawks Freshman realize their first win of the season after going the distance in a win over Jourdanton, 26-6.

Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!

A Hawk Freshman team that had been on the wrong end of the stick in losing 3 games to start the year and all by a one score margin.

In this game, a Caden Rodriguez first play 72 yard run would give the Hawks a lead that would not be relinquished and that first victory of what could be many more. Rodriguez finished this game with 104 yards.

CL’s defense was in sync after keeping their visitors in negative rushing yardage for the duration ending this game for the Indians showing -41 yards on their 13 carries.

Those numbers were helped by high snaps with only one rushing attempt that covered 10 yards on Jourdanton’s last drive of this game.

Most runs were either negative or 2 yards for those other offensive snaps.

Canyon Lake would strike in needing only 2 plays for their next score when Justin Abbott bounced off tackles for a hard fought 34 yard score and quick, 14-0 lead.

Billy Welty and Justin Abbott helped in win over Jourdanton.

“I had good offensive line-work and good teamwork with good blocking,” Abbott said like a smart running back that knows to throw compliments on his line. “Once I got through I just needed to keep it up!!

On what the difference was in today’s game compared to previous week’s? “Hard work and a lot of up and downs!!”

Up and downs are work out routines that the football team has to help in conditioning.

“We have to keep working hard and keep our grades up,” Abbott closed on hopes for a continued success on the field.

The Hawks continued their scoring streak in scoring on their 3rd drive covering 51 yards on 8 plays with Billy Welty doing much of the damage covering 30 yards on his three rushing attempts, the last, for 4 yards and a commanding, 20-0 halftime advantage.

“We have to carry it forward and keep it going and we scored our extra points on our second score,” Welty said when remembering last week’s loss was a result of not converting on those points after touchdowns. “We have to keep working hard and this is going to be our streak.”

    Go Hawks!!

The Lake continued their methodical game plan with their first drive of the 2nd Half with the same result when QB Luke Moses bulled over for a 2 yard score.

Now with a win on their resume, the Freshman will look to continue their assault by finishing their schedule like this team finished this game in dominating throughout for 4 quarters.

The Rest will Be History and Go Hawks!!
