Aces Were Wild in Hawks Win over Billies, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22

Aces were wild as Canyon Lake stopped their 3 game losing streak just in time for the start of District 28-4A, in sweeping Fredericksburg and winning their 4th game ever against this foe.
CL now has a 4-17 all time record against the Billies, so wins are not a given, as this school boasts the best record against the Hawks.
“We have had two good practices this week,” Head Coach Kim Clemons stated. “We have spent a lot of time shifting our focus and trying to block off everything that has been going on around us…I told the team that we had a clean slate and we needed to keep it going and put everything into perspective.”

This Hawk win was the 7th but that more important number would be the first win in district play and now looking at that end goal, of making the playoffs.
Coach Clemons closed, “I just did not want our team to fall into that woe is me funk and this was a good win.”
District 28-4A has just 5 Varsity teams fighting for 4 post-season spots and any win will go a long way in realizing that ultimate goal of ordering T-Shirts when the last round of district battles are over.
The Lake took the first two sets without losing the lead throughout until that first serve in the 3rd set.
Fredericksburg started on fire and quickly had the Hawks down, 9-2 before CL started their comeback for that deciding set win and sweep of Freddie.
CL went crazy from the serving line finishing with 13 aces which was a catalyst when Kaylee Moore had 2 aces (4 for the game) and Canyon Lake getting back to their previous two sets and cutting that 7 point lead down to a 6-10 deficit.
Junior Hannah Harrison led in 3 categories in win over Billies.
About their come to Jesus session, Moore remembered, “We meditated and everyone focused and put everything aside and we did it!”
Moore said more, “We had to have a competitive mind set as we had been shaky and were not comfortable but this actually counts and now we beat the Billies.”
There were 6 aces in that 3rd set alone which helped in this comeback when the Hawks tied it, 17 all. They took their first lead, 18-17 on Olivia Robinson’s service.
Fredericksburg could not get their lead back and Lily Sanders served that final point and Hawk win, 25-22.
There were several players that excelled in this team effort with each girl coming up with great digs, sets, blocks and kills.
Speaking of having a good serve goes to Sophomore Emily Pena who is perfecting her jump serve in finishing with 3 aces in this win.

“This is my first year on varsity and the game is a lot faster and it has lots of intensity,” Pena said with resolve. “I love this team and we put it to them and beat the Billies!”
After being told it was just the 4th win ever against this foe, Pena quipped, “I can’t fathom that and I can’t tell you how proud I am of our team….we are playing a lot better and I am honored to have a chance get this game.”
Hannah Harrison was another Hawk that had an all-round game in tying for the lead with Robinson with 7 kills and finishing 2nd in digs (12) behind Moore who led with 15 digs.
“Kaylee (Moore) got us back on track,” Harrison mentioned responding to how important it was to come out with two aces after Coach Clemons called a time-out after being down 7 points in that 3rd set. “We had been playing a little shaky but this is a tough district and if we can keep this energy up and keep our spirit and fighting tooth and nail we can get this going.”
The ReSporter asked Harrison to explain what a ‘tooth and nail’ meant? After some mumbling something about a dentist, The ReSporter decided to leave this to your imagination.
Aces were certainly wild in this game and now Canyon Lake will go on the road to Boerne to see if they can get some jokers in their deck of cards for some more district wins.
