The Hawks Green’s (JV) second half overcame a 9 point deficit and ended with a 13 point win over Floresville Tigers on Friday night, 69-56.

“Completely wore them down,” Head Green Coach Ryan Garney stated. “I challenged them at halftime to play harder and this game shows that they believe in the system and that has allowed us to get more consistency.”

It was two different halves after 22 points were scored in those first two quarters and then the flood gates opened with a 47 point second half of chaos that led to another impressive win.

That consistency was chaotic in that second half as that CL pressure continued to have it’s toll on the visitors as this Tiger team is still playing without their football players as that season continues for this school.

Marshall McConnell scored 8 of his 12 points in that first half that helped keep the CL close to the Tiger’s and enough for this comeback victory.

Andrew Villareal (14 points) and Travis Parma (16 points) had 8 of the Hawks 10 behind the arc shots to finish with McConnell with double digit scoring.

Brock Coburn was inserted to start the 2nd Half and made his two quarters work with 6 assist and 4 steals.

Every Hawk had an offensive rebound and at least one steal that helped with this total team effort.

Drake Dishimer led the team with 3 blocks as Canyon Lake line score finished with 19 assists and steals and 6 blocks that helped jettison that second half and eventual run-a-way win.

Freshman Mario Aguilar had a consistent outing scoring 7 points on 3 of 5 from the floor while dishing out 4 assists.

Mario Aguilar was ‘jelling’ in win over Floresville.

“I just had to get active,” Aguilar said when asked what was said during the halftime talks that had the Hawks trailing by 9 points. “The bench kept us going and everybody on the court capitalized on it and that had everyone doing the best that they could and then we just jelled.”

Canyon Lake continues to improve on their offense which at times when the team is jelling like Jell(o)ffense.

The Hawks will be back in action this Tuesday on the road in Luling with three games stacked in succession with the Gold Team tipping off at 5:00pm with the other two contests to follow.
