Hawk’s Swim Team Qualify in Multiple Events for Regionals
Canyon Lake Ladies Swimmers have their best showing ever in finishing 3rd place in the UIL District 26-5A Swimming and Diving Champs on Wednesday.
“To say we are proud of our CLHS Swim Team is a huge understatement,” Head Swim Coach Kimberley Moses said with pride. “They showed up and competed and represented our Hawk Family at the highest level.”
What would be your thoughts on this year’s team? “This year’s team is more complete and well-rounded than the past couple of years. With that said, this year has been the best it possibly could be considering the circumstances. Unfortunately, we did not get to compete in large meets like years past. We were limited to meets with 3 or fewer teams. It was a challenge to schedule such small meets, as it’s a challenge to host such small meets. We did our best and entered our athletes into as many dual and tri-meets as we possibly could, often at the last minute. The District Meet was the first time many of our swimmers experienced a larger meet and competed at such a high level.”
Danielle Carty was at the very top of this team event in her 50 Free that she was timed with a 27.62 swim that broke her own school record of 27.98 set back during the 2018-19 season.
The Lake had 31 best swims and with the Record set by Carty, CL had 4 relays and 1 individual qualify for Regionals.
Coach Kimberley Moses has commented that she has had swimmers that have improved their track times when they stepped out of the water.
“Swimming is a mentally and physically tough sport-we can swim 365 says a year, and a lot of the swimmers we compete against, do!” They not only swim for their High School, but also for a Club Team.” Coach Moses said when responding on how this team competed when they compete against larger schools or places that swimming on a club team is not an hour drive from home. “We have some athletes that have decided to take on the club aspect and it has paid off. We have some athletes that are “natural swimmers.” We have athletes that are learning to swim and we have some who have the potential to be record breakers and regional qualifiers. The Interest in the program is growing, and that is terribly exciting.”
Seniors Danielle Carty and Katie Hettinger responded on their meet with Carty taking the first swim, “I’m super happy to end my high school career with another record and 3 qualifying relays. I’m really proud of my team and all of the hard work we have put in.”
“I’m super proud of the four years of hard work, determination, and passion I have for swimming to help me reach my goal of qualifying for Regionals,” Hettinger came up from the water. “I couldn’t have done it without my family, my teammates, and most importantly my coach.”
Carty has broken 7 school records during her time at Canyon Lake.
