CL Hawks Run Rule Fredericksburg in Rematch, 10-0

Canyon Lake Hawks have most important games of season next week with Boerne.

“Our bats came alive,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla exclaimed. “I had respect for the #1 starter, but I thought we might have an advantage in facing their #2 pitcher tonight. We were more aggressive at the plate.”

     Let’s Go Hawks Beat Boerne!

On what the team will be doing to prepare for Boerne? “We will have some good practices and that is the most important thing for me to see them show effort…I know we will have guys have mistakes in a game but when we get to our practices I expect them to have good and crisp practices and give 110% and not just go through the motions.”

Losing those first games has frustrated the Hawks which has them continuing to tread water in District 28-4A play with another split this time with Fredericksburg, 10-0.

Pitcher Tyler Pauly struck out 9 Billies giving CL’s defense needing only to field two innings worth of outs. Pauly has now two consecutive district shut-outs with an added 6 innings of a shut-out with an inning of relief with Hunter Anderson completing that Mathis game, 2-0 in Whataburger Field.

In Pauly’s last 4 outings, in 26.1 innings of work,  has surrendered 2 earned runs for a decent 0.54 era as he has run this year’s mound work with a, 5-0 record. Combined with last year’s 5-0 record he now has 10 consecutive wins for the Hawks.

In this rubber game with the Billies, Pauly’s winning streak matched the number of runs scored in the win that has CL poised for their most important week to date having two battles with No. 4th Rated (THSBCA), Boerne Greyhounds.

Go Hawks & Keep Getting  Hits!!

The Hawks jumped out with 4 runs in the first two innings while Cole Immel for the Billies getting the only hit for Freddie in that first inning. Immel was erased with a double play and that being as far as FHS would reach base after a walk 3 innings later.

Good news came from a 12 hit outing for the Hawks with Hunter Anderson, Tanner Schultz, Jeremy Greens, and James LaLonde each with two hits. Four doubles by the players above but Greene with Ty Sellers joining that chorus of Lake players.

CL’s bats have been a case of, haves & have nots, with a big gulf between the players that are batting over a .300 average and the, nots, mired .220 or below.

This game had LaLonde scoring 3 runs (42 for his career and 4th on the All-Time List) and hoping to continue his new found bat.

James LaLonde found his bat & now readies for Boerne.

“I just wanted to relax,” LaLonde started. “I was putting a lot of stress in my game and I just envisioned getting on base by putting the ball in play and good things happen sometimes.”

On how CL will go into this next two games set with the Greyhounds, “We just have to relax and have good practices and that will be important for us to win….we have no fear and with good practices and staying focused with high energy.”

In that 4th inning, Freddie had their last base runner via a walk but The Lake was able to open the flood gates scoring 5 runs helping put this game on life support during the bottom of that same frame.

Greene started this inning with a single then two of 7 errors by the Billies that had two more Hawks on base with Greene being thrown out at 3rd base.

A Pauly walk and Hunter Anderson double scored two runs and then a single for Schultz scored two more Hawks.

Chase Anderson’s single scored the final run in this frame and now a 9 run lead for the good guys.

Chase Anderson has now reached base in 12 consecutive games and leads the team with a .409 average and .583 in district thus far.

Chase Anderson continues his strong game.

Pauly who has reached base safely in 15 of his last 16 games was asked bout the upcoming contest with Boene and how the Hawks had another payback game, “We had to respond, we know we have to stay focused and play like we can. We can play physical with them but we will have to be at our highest level.”

Boerne will not hand CL 7 errors (like Freddie did) and will be riding high with a 4 game winning streak and just one loss in their last 12 games with 7 of those victories keeping their opposition without a run.

These Greyhounds are ranked 4th by the THSBCA (Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association) Poll (March 29th) and trail First Place Calallen. Sinton, and China Springs. Two of those teams are in Region 4 and Sinton has a win over the Hawks earlier this year.

Good Time to see some Hawk Green & Gold in the stands for a road game on Tuesday and back home next Friday.
