Canyon Lake Packed the Wolves in their 12-2 victory to remain tied with Boerne for first place in District 28-4A competition.

If the Hawks can take care of business then the Wimberley & Boerne series will do some eliminating contests to see where CL will be after the last games are played on Thursday and Friday.

Boerne did take care of Wimberley last night and that will leave the Greyhounds and Hawks alone in first place. The Lake owns the tie breaker with Boerne as a result of their two wins earlier this season. So, if Boerne and Hawks win their next bouts then the first seed would belong to CL and Boerne would have that second slot.

A Wimberley win on Friday would have Canyon Lake all alone in first place. One more game tho as all three teams could still have a chance for a 3-way tie for several other possibilities.

It was a day of Firsts for CL now enjoying a 7 game winning streak….a First.

Seven district wins….a First.

10-1 Home Record….a First.

21 wins….a First.

Now CL will play final regular season game at Davenport on Thursday at 7:00pm.

“We changed the date to Thursday since the kids will be off on Friday,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said when responding to the change of date for this next game. “We (the Coaches) will take advantage of that off day and see some games.”

In this win, Canyon Lake spotted Davenport a run to start the game and then turned on the jets in finishing this game with a 10 run lead in that 5th inning giving the Hawks their 5th run ruled contest this season for another, First.

CL started their second inning with two walks (Matthew McLain-Tanner Schultz) and a single (Ty Sellers) scoring the last run for the Hawks 3-1 lead that was not threatened for the remainder of this outing.

Chase Anderson continued his strong offensive year rapping a single in CL’s following inning that also resulted with 3 runs. Chase Anderson has a 9 game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 17 straight contests.

Matthew McLain worked his second walk that same frame for his 10th straight time reaching base safely and now has reach base in all but three games this year.

James LaLonde is back in his groove as playoffs approach.

The bottom part of the line-up excelled in this win with 5 hits in 10 at bats and James LaLonde was a big part with a 3 hit game scoring 3 times and 2 rbi.

LaLonde, since his return to the line-up, has 7 hits in 3 games for a lofty .778 batting average. Those hits came in several different flavors in this win. A bunt single, hit and run single, and the an old variety hit that left no mistake in knowing a single would be the result.

“I wanted to rebound especially since this was Senior Night and just stay calm,” LaLonde said. “I needed to come back stronger and Coach told us that no-one would remember the past games as much as they will know how we did in these final few games.”

Well, The ReSporter realized that the Hawks had been missing LaLonde during the middle part of the season and having his game come along now is a welcomed sight.

“He (LaLonde) handles the bat better than anyone on our team,” Coach Escamilla recalled. “He has comeback hitting and that is what we need.”

Pitcher Tanner Schultz got his sixth win of the year and 2nd in a row as the games become more important and teams continue to jockey for position in seeding for the post-season. CL was able to score 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning as that frame would be Schultz’s last inning of work due to his pitch count.

Six more strikeouts and walking just one Wolf was vintage Schultz as he continues to fine tune his craft for his next time on the mound being a playoff battle.

That final inning had CL start with the first 3 batters getting a single and then Jeremy Greene walked to start the final parade of runs.as Davenport helped in ushering this quick ending with 3 errors and a Hawk win.

Another bout on Thursday and with a win, Canyon Lake will have another first. A District Championship under their belt and a chance to achieve those other goals involving post-season contests.

1)   A Wimberley win over Boerne would have a 3 way tie and probably a coin flip for playin ramifications.

2)  A Boerne win over Wimbo would have CL tied with Boerne and wins tie-breaker due to a 2-0 record against Greyhounds.

Hawks beat Davenport.

1)    A Wimberley win over Boerne would leave the Hawks on top as District 28-4A Champion.

2)   A Boerne win over Wimbo would leave CL tied with Boerne and Hawks first seed based on 2-0 record against Greyhounds.
