Pauly 1-Hitter Soften Panther’s Bats in Hawk, 3-0 Win
The Canyon Lake Hawks stopped Navarro’s 18 game winning streak with a Tyler Pauly one hitter as these two teams will meet up again tomorrow and a CL win will put your Hawks in the Regional Semi-Finals.
“We were trying to add to our lead,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla stated. “But we had Tyler out there and he did a hell of a job!”
This Panther team came into this contest without being shut-out and now will have their backs against the wall when CL puts their 2nd number one pitcher on the mound for a chance to continue post-season play.
Pauly’ has a 16-0 record in his last two seasons and has 18 total wins during his 3 year career at Hawkville.
The Hawks did not waste any time starting their bottom half of the first inning with two straight hits by Pauly and Hunter Anderson. Then Chase Anderson reached base on sacrifice bunt and was safe on a Panther error. With the bases loaded, Matthew McLain took one for the team (hit by a pitch) to drive in that first CL run and enough for a win.
On what it is like as a pitcher, when taking the mound, with a 3 run lead? “That was huge and it allows me to pitch with more confidence,” Pauly relayed. “But I did not feel that I pitched that great today….I just can’t give up free passes (walks).”
Thoughts on CL’s Defense & Tomorrow’s game? “Our defense was outstanding and they made all the plays and we will need to come out tomorrow and get the lead early like we did today.”
Those other two runs came from a Griffen Williams’ fly ball to centerfield scoring Hunter and then Tanner Schultz finished the scoring with a fielders choice ground ball plating Chase.
NHS batted 0-7 with runners in scoring position but Hawk timely strikeout or defensive play kept this #5th ranked team without a run. Canyon Lake had faced another 5th ranked team this year with Boerne and swept that tough District 28-4A team.
Those wins jettisoned CL to the top of district play which helped solidify, The Lake, after their mid-season slump.
As good as this game went for CL, it was still not a vintage Pauly win after giving up 5 walks and starting several Panther batters in the hole with 2-0 counts.
Pauly has been part of a shut-out in 6 of the 10 thrown this season.

This game was good enough for the Hawks 12th win in a row with Tanner Schultz next up for a chance of continuing this T-N-T pitching dual who have been a consistent entity this year.
Hawks’ pitching will need to continue their demolition if the CL bats do not produce in a game which was the scenario for this victory.
Way to Go Hawks!!
