Canyon Lake has been here before, it was last season after a tough loss to Wimberley. The Hawks were able to rebound nicely with their best offensive showing ever and a solid win, 61-23.
The contest was the 2nd most points scored that trailed a 63 point affair against Eastside Memorial back in 2016.
The Hawks were able to run down the field unimpeded with 3 players topping the 100 yard barrier which was the second time The Lake had hit that milestone. Three seniors (Jesse Horner 180, Derek Wiatrek 104, and Ryan Rivali 102) matched the 2015 Hawk team who had 3 players (Tanner Faris 155, Austin Brennan 140, and Micah St. John 121) accomplished that feat.
CL has had 25 games with 2 or more players with 100 or more yards rushing.
Can the Hawks repeat that type of offensive output again? La Grange had a 3 game win streak before Canyon Lake stopped that streak with a 38 point victory. This series has not had a close game yet with each game reaching 20 points or more for the victor.
LG entered last season’s contest with a loss but will enter this game with a win over Rockdale last week.
#1 Bravion Rogers finished with 105 yards rushing at 7 yards per tote. The team closed with 229 yards on the ground while passing for 113 yards.
Rogers will lead the Leopards with 224 all-purpose yards using several different varieties to reach that total. Rushing (105), kick returner (25), punt returner (17), and a fumble return for 77 yards. This player will be the punter and also had a completion for a touchdown.
#6 Senior Clay Wolff will be taking snaps as this player passed for 83 yards and added 44 yards on the ground. Wolff did throw 3 interceptions so that might be an avenue for CL could take advantage.
#7 Jaxon Cooper had 3 catches for 56 yards and leads the team going into this Friday’s battle.
The Hawks will need to improve to take this game with a schedule littered with ranked opponents during the first 7 games has La Grange being the only one who did not make those pre-season accolades.
CL’s defense started better this year but the offense will need to get up off the ground quickly for a much needed win.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
