CL Girls Compete Hard in Loss to Navarro, 61-38

Canyon Lake Girls asserted a much better effort in their second go around with Navarro as foul trouble and turnovers took their toll in a loss to the Panthers, 61-38 in the Hawks gym last Tuesday night.
There were some differences in the two contests.
One was having three players that did not have an opportunity to play in the first game.
The Hawks came out of the gate with a good game plan as they fought hard through the first quarter.
CL was tied with less than two minutes left in the first quarter, but with two starters sitting on the bench with three fouls took its toll as the short handed Hawks could not keep up with the District 26-3A front runner.
Amber Ramsey has been good for double figures in rebounds and points since her return to the lineup earlier this month. Ramsey fell to the whistle and played less than five minutes for the game.
Caitlin Gillum fell victim to the same fate, but was able to last longer since her position did not have her position underneath the basket.
Gillum did dish out five assists and corralled six rebounds trying to make up for the absence of Ramsey.
Hannah St. John was the only player to reach double figures in points, finishing with 13.
Katie Williams was a giant in the paint finishing with 13 rebounds to go along with her four blocks.
Amber West brought her ‘A’ game with four steals, which have become a trademark this season for the Senior Guard.
Canyon Lake was not as bad as the final score. Foul trouble benched several players and caused a short bench to be even shorter.
This team has some victories coming by conquering nuances in the flow of the game.
Turnovers along with free throw shooting are two parts the Hawks could improve upon. The result will have CL walking off the court after a victory.
