CL Hawks Varsity Continue to Improve in Loss to Wimberley.

CL Hawks going over strategy in game against Wimberley.

Canyon Lake Volleyball starts district competition with a loss to the always tough Wimberley Texans last Friday night at the Hawk Nest, 20-25, 18-25, 16-25.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!!

When asked how the Hawk team that is playing right now would have fared if this was the first of the season at the Tex-Fest Tournament, “We would have made the Gold Bracket,” Head Coach Kim Clemons commented. “We should have capitalized more tonight in this game, especially when their #13 was on the back row.”

That #13 Young Lady will be playing D-I Volleyball last year and the difference she made for the Texans was too much for CL to overcome on this night.

“We have had some good practices especially from the Seniors as they realize that this is their last chance to make a statement and get into the playoffs,” Coach Clemons continued. “It is now or never as district gets started. Our Seniors are super fired up and are starting to gel and we need to take advantage of our possibilities and continue to push.”

The Lake opened the match being down 1-5 and then outscored Wimbo, 8-4 before running into a buzz saw in #13 before coming up short. Each set was, for the most part, a carbon copy of that first set as Wimberley was able to jet out to a 5 point lead to start which kept Canyon Lake trying to catch up in each set.

Lily Sanders will work to get Hawks into the Post-Season.

There were some good signs seen as Coach Clemons commented on the Seniors like Lily Sanders who was able to get some solid blocks and had improved greatly in her net play as this year has matured.

“We will need to show our potential and start giving 110% all around,” Sanders stated when asked how this team will need to respond as this district is just starting and plenty of time of make a run for a playoff bid. “We are hoping for the best and that will come in our practices and that will help us make a mark.”

A loss to one of the District 28-4A’s best team will not bury a team but Canyon Lake’s improvement from the start of the season to this game is striking and harnessing that energy can help in making a post-season run.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
