CL Hawks Boy’s Golf’s Tristen Evans Finish 1st & Team 5th at Billies Tourney
The Canyon Lake Boy’s Golf team had another impressive showing after finishing 5th Place in Fredericksburg.
“I am really proud of our guys today,” Head Coach Luke Chapman started. “We have put in a bunch of work this fall, and we saw that work pay off today.”
The Lake had the #1 Medalist Tristen Evans who shot 73 for his round becoming a first for Hawk sports. With 11 teams hitting the links with 5 golfers per team and overflow for schools that had more than 5 but not enough to form another team.
“I was really just looking for a solid performance to stay within myself and perform well for my team and the Hawk nation,” Evans said in response his round. “The Lady Bird Johnson golf course was is great shape.”
Coach Chapman was impressed with Evans day, “I knew Tristen was good and talented, but he really blew me away today, his mental approach was really good, and the crazy thing is that he missed a few make-able birdie putts while still shooting a 73. I am excited to continue to watch him progress and be a Hawk for a long time.
“Our other guys really competed as well,” Coach Chapman said. “Jacob Tuckness and Dalton Bohannon had some tough breaks early on, but really kept grinding and turned their rounds around to shoot solid scores. If they can shore up a few things, they can really knock some strokes off of their score. All in all it was a great and exciting day for us. We finished 17 strokes behind a perennial state tournament team in Fredericksburg, which hopefully gives us a belief that we can compete with some of the best teams in our region. We just have to continue to put in the work and believe in ourselves. Great day for Hawk Golf!”
Those larger schools combined with competing against State Ranked Fredericksburg showed that this might be a good season when the Spring meets start up. Usually a school that plays at their home course will have better scores due to the familiarity.
“Most of our kids have played that course 2-3 times with a few playing it for the first time,” Coach assessed. “I do thing it would make a difference and help us close the gap if we played on a course that did not have that type of advantage.”
