Hawk’s Baseball Look to Reload in Scrimmage & All-Time Records
Baseball was a crowning jewel last year for CL’s Sports and this should be another year for making a mark when the season gets going in two weeks.
Many times a prognosticator will say that, in baseball, a team is only as good as their personnel up the middle on the diamond.
CL lost starters at Centerfield, Short-Stop, and Second Base due to graduating Seniors and behind the plate when Dalton Stanley was injured during football this season.
“We have plenty of options to help solidify our middle game,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla commented. “It will be a work in progress till we begin playing games.”
The Lake has a new found love with an increase of students wanting to play in these past few years. CL has hired two Coaches in the last two years with Kyle Hejnicki and newbie Travis Walker this season.
Is Canyon Lake at a point of their program that a phrase, reload, will present a chance of keeping baseball above water in competing with those usual powerhouses in Boerne, Wimberley and Fredericksburg?
“We are proud of our kids playing JV baseball,” Coach Escamilla stated. “We will count on them from time to time depending our our need.”
CL lost two pitchers in Tyler Pauly and Peyton McMullen who had stellar careers on the mound. Pauly did not lose a game during the past two seasons while McMullen became a go-to pitcher when a contest needed a closer. Now both players are on college rosters.
“We have two starters that need to be replaced from last year’s team. We have plenty to choose from,” Coach Escamilla closed. “We should get a lot of looks during our scrimmages. Juniors Hayden Baker and Brayden Welch had limited playing time last year but I expect those to be part of our success on the field. Sophomore Luke Roskin played JV ball last year but we expect that he will challenge for the top 3 pitching spots in our pitching rotation.”
The Hawks were successful on their first scrimmage in Hondo and since there are not actual winners during this time of year, The ReSporter will not mention that CL won, 10-2 while striking out 18 owls on the night.
Below are where the All-Time Best reside while the Hawk’s Baseball Team will have several players chasing records for this upcoming season.
Here are the Top Ten All-Time list and notes of where present players stand for their quest of inclusion.
