Head Coach Victor Escamilla Reaches 400 Wins in Double-Header Sweep of Miller
Canyon Lake won their double header over Corpus Christi Miller in grand fashion scoring 28 runs and those two wins had Head Coach Victor Escamilla reaching 400 for his career.
The Lake represents 75 of those conquests that has Coach Escamilla sporting a .644 winning percentage since starting this portion of his career at The Lake.
Canyon Lake also enjoys a 36-15 home record under Escamilla and with these two Miller victories is now 3 games over .500 on away games.
On this first night of a 3 day Corpus Christi swing of contests that comes before District 28-4A start a week from Friday when Wimberley meets CL in a home game.
This would be a two game chance for players to enhance their personal stats as well as upping CL’s team stats compared to previous seasons.
The Hawks have their best batting, on base percentage, and slugging percentage since play began on the Varsity stage in 2008-09 year. District will knock those percentages down before the end of the season as CL’s district has some stalwart schools that will have a chance to make their case.
But until that day Canyon Lake will have one of their toughest contests tonight when they meet up with a Top 5 team in Calallen starting at 7:00pm.
A Mathis game on Saturday and then CL will return home to face a huge hurdle against Central Catholic from San Antonio (12-4) who were just beaten by Boerne, 5-3.
Griffen Williams was the headline on this night with a respectable 6 for 6 while driving in 4 runs and adding a double and triple to his 1.050 slugging percentage. Eleven of Williams 20 hits have gone for extra bases..
Ty Sellers continues to shine after entering this year on a prolong slump last year. Sellers started the season with a .235 career batting average and now stands with a .286 average while also showing off some power after hitting two triples on the night-cap and had a double in his opener.
Chase Anderson is working on a 11 game hitting streak with a hit in all but one game during this campaign. Second on that hitting steak list is Hunter Anderson that has compiled a 7 game streak.
Pitching from Luke Roskin and Hayden Baker took care of these Pirates bats. Roskin leads the team with a 4-0 record and Baker upped his season to 2-0. Both pitchers accounted for 8 strikeouts in their 5 innings of work.
Some more tough hurdles with that first jump looking more like a high-jump before those pole-vault events come calling in District 28-4a play.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
