Lady Hawk’s Soccer Battle the Billies Tuesday for Playoff Spot
This Tuesday the Hawk’s Girls Soccer regular season comes down to a final game facing Fredericksburg on the road and needing a win or tie which will put, The Lake, in post-season play.
The Billies lost to CL in the first round of district play and that same result would have your Hawks shopping for T-Shirts. A tie would also get your Hawks with a post-season bid.
Head Coach Kara Stracener deciphered what happens in case of the outcomes, “If we win and they (Davenport) lose, we will be tied in points (20) and will go head to head, since we tied both games, it should go to goal differential, which we have a higher goal differential, so we would end up in 3rd (seed).”
The Wolves are playing first place Wimberley and a win or tie for Davenport would give CL a 4th seed. So a win for CL and loss for DHS puts those tiebreaker rules in place.
Freddie needs a win to give them an 18-17 point advantage which would move The Lake down the totem pole finishing in 5th place and the end of their season.
Coach Stracener continued, “The team (CL) this year is strong and we have built off of the momentum from last year. Even though we are strong this year, our district is stronger this year as well, so we find ourselves in a similar situation where we can finish either 3rd, 4th or 5th place depending on the results of this final game.”
On what Canyon Lake will need to do to clinch a bid, “We have competed really well and the girls have put in some hard work and have continued to get better each game, so I am confident going into the last game. We need to not come in overconfident, since we beat Fred in the first round. It’s a big game, but just like any other game, the girls will need to step up and compete, stay focused on the little things, and to stay composed when it comes to finishing on our opportunities. Fred is a good team that does not quit, so it will be a battle, I’m sure, till the end.”
That first round of playoffs will have the top 4 schools from District 25-4A pitted against CL’s District 26-4A.
Georgetown Gateway finished undefeated, 12-0 and not drawing the Gators would help the chances of going further to mirror last year’s record breaking Hawk team.
