CL Hawks Softball has Complete Win Over Davenport, 10-4
Canyon Lake got a significant win on Friday after scoring in all 7 innings resulting in a, 10-4 win putting the Hawks with a 3-2 District 28-4A record.
“Finishing the first round, 3-2 is important because we can control our own fate when it comes to playoffs and seeding,” Head Softball Coach Hayley Galloway stated. “The Davenport game was the most complete game we have played in a few weeks. It’s nice to have that confidence to take into the second round and another big game against Wimberley.”
This district has 4 teams duking it out for two seeds and Bandera would need a miracle turn-a-round to wiggle into one of those spots going without a district win.
CL beat Bandera, but only by one run, so there will be no game that can be taken lightly just for showing up thinking a win is in the bag.
Shelby Porter led the team with 3 hits as the bottom of the batting order had every player with as least one hit and finishing with .553 batting average with 8 hits in their 15 at bats.
Couple that with the dynamic duo (Gabby Barnes & Riley Glenn-Millhouse) at the top who gave these Wolves all they could handle hence by scoring at least one run in every frame.
A triple off the bat of lead-off hitter Barnes that had this speedster circling the bases after an errant throw was an exclamation point (run). Barnes has reached base safely for every game this season (19) and carries a decent .613 batting average and with her next run will hold sole position of reaching the most runs (41) in a season. She is presently tied with Alexis Robinson (40) who reached that plateau back during her 2014 campaign.
This team’s accomplishment is also found having 9 players with a .300 batting average or higher. Which goes a long way on putting pressure on players in the circle with very few easy outs for relief.
The trifecta with offense, pitching, and defense was evident and having consistency in those three areas of softball can give this team a chance of finishing the year with a chance of ordering those always important T-Shirts.
Now, The Lake will finish thier final round with just two home games remaining This time last season, Canyon Lake, had a 4-13 record and now with hopes of finishing with at least a 3rd seed which helps in giving a first round chance of playing more games.
District 27-4A would be paired up with CL’s 28-4A schools in that first round and District 27 has just one team with a winning record and the team with a winning percentage (Navarro) has split with The Lake.
Way to Go HAWKS!!
