A Canyon Lake’s Baseball Team Power Surge takes Llano Down, 13-2

Luke Roskin, Jeremy Greene, and Tristan Roberts stoically stand while thinking of their Homers.

Canyon Lake broke open a tight game with home runs that would run rule Llano, 13-2.

Congrats & Way to Go Hawks!!

The Hawks are on a power surge this season and in this win, CL was able to hit 3 homers in a game for the first time.

Head Coach Victor Escamilla commented on having players called on in how that was rewarded for several players in this win, “You have to go with who is producing at the moment and if they can continue to produce then we will stay with them.”

Two reserve players had their chance to shine when Luke Roskin produced a bases loaded double before his two run homer to finish this game with 5 rbi’s.

Tristan Roberts decided to join this party as a pinch hitter for Roskin in the bottom of the 6th inning with his two run shot that would end this game by a run rule.

“I thought it was going to be a fly-out,” Roberts remembered bout his touch all the bases moment. “But I had enough confidence it might make it and when it did it felt good to be able to help the team. This was my first ever home run ever and I have to earn a spot.”

             Keep Going Strong Hawks!!

On what Roberts thinking as he was rounding the bases, “I was more concerned to touch the bases and not to get too excited but it was good being on the other side.” (Last comment was about being able to do the Home-Run-Dunk!!)

Jeremy Greene was the inbetweener with his three run shot coming during that same 5th inning when Roskin launched his home run.

That 5th frame saw The Lake rack up 5 hits while scoring 7 runs leaving no one on base after the carnage that would break up a tight 2 run lead for this eventual 11 run victory.

Greene came into this season known for his defense in right field but another part of his game has blossomed with his bat. Greene entered this season with a career .209 average and a pedestrian slugging percentage at .291 clip. Discipline at the plate has also improved having 9 total walks on 86 at bats before the start of this season.

Now, Greene leads the team with 15 walks while cutting down on strikeouts that wss 42% chance of striking out when coming to the plate. So far this season that percentage is 25% and hitting for power with .398 slugging percentage and that .209 batting average has risen to .241.

Hunter Anderson was credited with his 3rd win this season and a balmy 0.36 earned run average (era) and Roskin got his first save taking over during those last 3 innings giving up 2 hits and lowering his era 1.75

On the advice from Coach Escamilla after Roskin’s rough start last week versus how well this game went today, “I took what Coach said to heart and I just needed to step up and work for the team and not just for myself.”

Roskin continued, “I had more confidence and I was really excited to have another chance and now we will need to keep it going to the playoffs.

Tell us bout your home-run, “I have been working on my swing and hitting is mental and I cleared my mind and went with it (the ball)…I saw two good ones and took advantage.”

Roskin commented on not only his homer but his bases clearing double.

                  The Roskin ‘DUNK’!

On thoughts bout his Mom not being able to come to this game and if she might need to start going to game-changer to keep up with the game so the hitting/pitching streak can continue, “Just a coincidence but I will tell her about it!!”

A good chance for clearing bases and cobwebs for several players as these next two battles will show, The Lake, where they stand this season when they face another Top 5 ranked opponent in Boerne.

Canyon Lake has not been a household name when baseball is talked bout around the state and last year’s victories over the Greyhounds might not be highly thought of but a repeat could help with getting recognition since Boerne certainly has been to the top for several years and is perched up as a #1 & #2 in two of the statewide polls.

First game in Boerne on Tuesday and then the return date on Thursday.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
