Five Hawks in State Meet with Alencia Lentz Winning Pole Vault, 13’6

Alencia Lentz had no trouble clearing her first height at the Texas State Meet!!

Canyon Lake’s Alencia Lentz came home with a Gold Medal after setting a State Meet Record vaulting, 13-06 at The University of Texas Myers Stadium.

The Lake had their most athletes to qualify for this ultimate Track Meet and will look to add to this total for these upcoming years.

4×400 Relay will be back stronger next year!! Hannah Hammer, Ayren Lightfoot, Alencia Lentz, Claire Schroeder, Maddie Pipkin, and Coach Sami Theurer.

Coby Mickey was the only Hawk for the Boy’s when he placed 2nd at Region Meet in Kingsville. Mickey cleared the opening height but was unsuccessful in clearing his next level. But being 9th in The State of Texas is nothing to bow your head with as there are countless athletes that did not have this chance.

In CL’s 4×400 meter relay had  4 ladies finish just outside 6th place but this was monumental for The Hawk Nation as there has been countless Canyon Lake Relay teams that have gone into a sink hole at Kingsville in the past with great times but not making the cut.

This year’s foursome broke that barrier and with this group being composed of 2 Juniors and 2 Freshman, then you can deduce that there will be another chance to return for another try.

Alencia Lentz had a busy day as she would also compete in this event with Claire Schroeder, Hannah Hammer, and Ayren Lightfoot who have put their foot forward in making history for this year and next track season.

Lentz was the Gold Standard for Canyon Lake when she bested 8 other challengers on a hot afternoon in the Pole Vault event.

Clearing 13’06 and just missing the 14’00 height will also keep a major goal for clearing  that height next season and that mark would crown Lentz as the best 4A Pole Vaulter in Texas in the 4A Classification.

Below you see when each contestant started and an O standing for clearing a height and the X for a miss.

Kashlee Dickinson from Canyon High School had the best Vault entering this Meet after clearing 13’6 at Region I.

That is All You Need to Know!! CONGRATS STATE CHAMPION: ALENCIA LENTZ

During this day, Dickinson started with a miss at the 12’0 mark and proceeded to qualify on her 2nd jump three times.

Meanwhile Lentz cleared her first two jumps and her first miss was at the 13’0 level.

The big make was her first try going 13’3 as Dickinson had already let the officials know that she would re-enter at 13’6 stage.  A good move since Dickinson had cleared that height at Regionals and Lentz had not ventured that far up the ladder in her career.

But this was the day for Lentz when she cleared the 13’6 mark on her 2nd try that would be the eventual Championship Vault.

On what goes on inside your head during this ultimate meet, “I just concentrate on myself in wanting to do my personal best,” Lentz recalled. “I did not want to worry and so I was laser focused on my next jump and I did not know what the others were doing.”

This meet was set up between a battle with Dickinson, as these two athletes, had the best vaults of this group and those vaults were better than the State Meet mark.

On realizing that Dickinson had missed her last vault, “I was shocked but I was so focused that it really didn’t register because I still had a lot of adrenaline and wanted to reach the 14’0 height…I still had another chance and I just wanted to stay focused and did not want anything else to clutter that goal.”

             Hawk Proud!!

On what your Mom said to you after the event, “She always says she knew I would do it and then encourages me to get 14’0.”

After everything was finished, give us your thoughts, “This was fun and with all the people that were here I wanted to make them happy, but I just Praise God because I couldn’t have done it without Him and He was there and supported me.”

Canyon Lake is well represented with incredible young people which puts an exclamation point on why The Hawk Nation is so proud of them all…

Way to Go Hawks!!
