Hawk Volleyball Break Even 4-4 in Rattler Tournament

Elise Johnson finished with 2 blocks in win over Del Valle.

The Lake’s Volleyball (4-4) broke even on a 3-day Rattler Tournament that gave the Hawks a lot of repetition which can help as the team continues to work on improving as District 27-4A inches closer with a September 9th start date.

               Get lots of Kills Hawks!!

“We still will have more tough opponents just like we have played in these tournaments,” Head Coach Kim Clemons admonished. “We were the only 4A team in Pieper’s tournament last week and playing large schools continued during the Rattler tourney this week.”

“We still have games next week against San Marcos and an always tough 3A Blanco team,” Coach Clemons continued. “Then Pieper before our road district opener in Navarro.”

More wins than losses is not the main goal during this pre-district schedule as these 3 tournaments and playing a tough weekly games has already shown improvement overall and helping the coaches see where they can use their depth when needed.

The Rattler Tournament had 8 games during a 3 day stretch and in those encounters, The Lake, faced five 6A schools, two 5A, and one 4A school. Those 8 teams have a combined, 82-65 record.

Canyon Lake beat those opponents that were winnable battles and had valuable lessons in those that were lost.

GiGi Cortez was instrumental with her service in win over Del Valle.

In the stats below you have a combination of all 8 games and those were the leaders in certain contests and is not the total amassed from all the matches.

GiGi Cortez was one of many players that had a chance to get in on the learning curve, “We get a boost of energy when we get a win like this,” Cortez said in response in playing multiple games in a 3 game stretch.

“When I step up to the line…I just think that I want to do the best for the team and that is what matters,” Cortez closed when commenting on her service during a win over Del Valle.

The Hawks will have first serve at the Hawk Nest on Tuesday against San Marcos and that game will start after the Sub-Varsity contests conclude around 6:30pm.

Keep the Learning Curve going strong Hawks!!
